Project Estimator – Job Description
Peterson Power Systems seeks a Project Estimator based in Hillsboro, OR. The role supports the Sales team by reviewing customer needs and specifications to develop accurate quotes for presentation to customers.
Essential Job Functions- Review plans, drawings, and specifications to determine the best product solution.
- Develop customer quotes based on specification documents, employing value engineering methods to meet or exceed intended specifications.
- Track full‑cycle project work and communicate updates to related teams.
- Collaborate with Project Engineers and Sales Representatives to determine the best course of action that prioritizes customers.
- Research online Plan Centers to gather specifications and active projects for standby power market components such as generators, transfer switches, and uninterruptible power supplies.
- Evaluate sub‑contractor and vendor quotes for accuracy and completeness.
- Provide updates to Sales Representatives on quotes directed to assigned customers.
- Enter daily activity logs into work‑tracking systems and submit daily quote activity reports to Sales Managers and Sales Representatives.
- Maintain and submit necessary paperwork and reports in a timely and complete manner, including quotes and expense reports.
- Research markets to develop a contractor bidders list for each project to ensure all interested contractors receive a proposal.
- Provide materials and literature to support promotional efforts; coordinate and participate in facility visits, trade shows, and keep customers informed of new products and changes.
- Identify and promote cost‑improvement opportunities.
- Maintain the Power Systems Industry Representative credential via Dealer Performance Center.
- Travel away from base location as needed for jobsite walkthroughs, customer visits, offsite training, and project commissioning; operate company or personal vehicle as required.
- Maintain regular, punctual, and predictable attendance.
- Invest time in learning to increase knowledge of electric power systems, products, and applications.
- Attend trade shows, conferences, and customer events as needed.
- Work collaboratively in a team environment with a spirit of cooperation.
- Display excellent communication, presentation, persuasion, and negotiation skills when working with customers and coworkers; remain calm and courteous under pressure.
- Respectfully take direction from supervisor/manager.
- Bachelor’s Degree from a fully accredited college in Business Management, Business Administration, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related field.
- Minimum of three (3) years of directly related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
- Experience in the construction industry preferred.
- Experience in a project management role preferred.
- Valid motor vehicle operator’s license with an acceptable driving record and access to reliable transportation.
