Senior Packaging Engineer

Overview

Hillsboro Technical Operations (HTO) is a drug product and finished goods manufacturing organization responsible for the reliable delivery of Roche’s commercial portfolio and pipeline products. This role is located in Genentech’s HTO facility in Hillsboro, Oregon, and focuses on the design, sourcing, and qualification of secondary and tertiary packaging configurations to support new product launches and technology transfers.

• Design, source, and qualify secondary and tertiary packaging configurations and components for new product launches and tech transfers.
• Implement new packaging configurations at the HTO site, including mechanical and thermal qualification.
• Collaborate seamlessly with site and network organizations throughout the process.
• Support risk analysis activities for packaging and shipping qualifications.
• Create and maintain packaging item specifications in a cGMP environment.
• Provide technical expertise on secondary and tertiary packaging materials.
• Support all phases of the qualification and validation of packaging equipment.
• Assist Finished Goods and Fill Finish Value Streams in resolving packaging material quality issues.
• Create and maintain packaging artwork.
• Investigate and root‑cause analyze secondary and tertiary packaging-related issues.
• Partner with Procurement to select and qualify packaging material vendors.
• Work directly with packaging vendors to develop innovative and cost‑effective solutions.

• B.S. degree in Packaging or a related engineering field.
• 3–7 years of engineering experience in the pharmaceutical or other regulated field.
• Knowledge of design and qualification processes for secondary/tertiary pharmaceutical packaging for small parcel and unitized distribution by truck and/or air.
• Experience with ASTM, ISTA, and IATA standards and testing for packaging designs and medical devices.
• Familiarity with ArtiosCAD, Solid Works, and TOPS.
• Understanding of secondary and tertiary packaging equipment and processes.
• Knowledge of pharmaceutical system qualification lifecycle and change control systems in a cGMP environment.
• Detail‑oriented with strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and cross‑functional collaboration skills.
• Ability to work independently and organize tasks with little direction.
• Proficient in applying project management tools.

Expected salary range: $78,800 – $146,510, based on experience and qualifications. Includes potential discretionary annual bonus and relocation benefits.
