The City of Hillsboro Water Department is excited to announce a career opportunity within our team. We are currently seeking candidates to fill a Water Distribution Supervisor position within our Flow Control/Reservoir Section of the distribution division.
As part of the dynamic and dedicated team at the City of Hillsboro, you will play a pivotal role in our mission to deliver safe and reliable water services to our community. The Hillsboro Water Department operates at a metropolitan scale from a suburban environment, with responsibilities for local water distribution as well as for regional water supply, providing drinking water supply to nearly 400,000 people.
PrimaryDuties and Responsibilities
Flow Control Distribution Supervisor oversees three teams within the section. This team operates and maintains finished and raw water storage including Barney Reservoir;
Eldon Mills dam and system reservoirs. Finished water conveyance and delivery in the Hillsboro distribution system, to partners, and wholesale customers. Operates and monitors SCADA system controls and flow management. Responsible for performing water utility locates.
- Supervises staff to include planning, prioritizing and assigning work; conducting performance evaluations; ensuring staff is trained; ensuring that employees follow policies and procedures; maintaining a healthy and safe working environment; and making hiring, termination, and disciplinary recommendations.
- Oversees programs related to water system operations to maintain public health and public safety.
- Oversees the daily operations and maintenance of the city’s municipal water system, Joint Water Commission transmission system, and Barney Joint Water Commission water systems to provide adequate, safe, and potable water for community consumption. Maintains Oregon Health Authority drinking water regulations and standards.
- Oversees the preventive maintenance of equipment and instruments to ensure efficient operation.
- Monitors and performs adjustments to systems and equipment; administers flow rate adjustments; troubleshoots operational problems; and maintains operational quality and water supply requirements.
- Plans, organizes, and coordinates projects; identifies resource needs; monitors and tracks project activities and schedules. Maintains the required documentation and records.
- Assists in preparing budget input and budget tracking; assists in planning and program development; recommends system improvements; and prepares related reports and estimates. Participates in the preparation of bid specifications for new equipment, machinery, and other materials and supplies used in the maintenance, repair, and operation of the supervisory controls and data acquisition system.
- Manages records and information in any format, in accordance with applicable statutes, regulations, and city policy, guidance, and records retention schedule.
- Manages the operations and maintenance of pump stations, reservoirs, dams, water quality, and treatment, maintains emergency storage, and coordinates water releases. Works with IT and electrical staff for maintaining and operating automation of the water system.
- Serves as a “Direct Responsible Charge” (DRC) for the water distribution system and complies with all state requirements in completion of duties as needed.
- Manages, develops advanced controls and logic to operate the hydraulics of the water system.
- Identifies OR OSHA safety standards for section staff and water facilities.
- Respond to emergencies outside of regular work hours.
