Mechanical Designer
As a Mechanical Designer, you will be working at a cutting-edge manufacturing plant in Hillsboro, Oregon. You will play a key role in expanding and optimizing facility operations to meet growing production needs. This position offers a dynamic work environment where you'll collaborate closely with engineers, project coordinators, and construction trades. Your work will involve drafting as-built pipe and equipment layouts to record drawings, driving the operational excellence of the plant.
Engaging in on-site work is a pivotal part of this role, where you'll be tasked with assessing existing field conditions and spearheading the implementation of field observations and field verifications to current systems. You'll leverage tools like AutoCAD/REVIT for detailed 2D/3D drawing packages that bring our visions to life. With a blend of hands-on fieldwork and meticulous measurements, this role provides a constantly evolving set of challenges and opportunities for professional growth.
As a mechanical representative on a multi-discipline design team, you will work directly with other design staff, client equipment owners, stakeholders, and equipment manufacturers of next-generation and prototype tools to build utility requirement documents to allow the development of installation design packages. You will interact directly with clients and contractors throughout the design process and assist with RFI and submittal services on-site during the construction phase.
- Hybrid/local on-site position with regular site visits to verify existing field conditions and ensure design implementation aligns with project specifications.
- Coordinate effectively with project engineers, project coordinators, engineering coordinators, construction trades, and team members to ensure the design/as-built reflects project objectives.
- Provide comprehensive 2D/REVIT drawing packages that are clear, accurate, and follow site design standards.
- Verify, update, and draft comprehensive chemical/mechanical plans including piping layout, equipment layout, schedules, and P&IDs.
- Draft Hook-up drawings for Tool-Install packages and Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) showing system components and equipment interactions.
- Produce detailed flow diagrams for both gas-side and water-side systems (HVAC, Hydronics, and Fire Protection).
- Implement isometric views into design packages to assist in field installation and understanding.
- Provide custom installation details for complex project portions.
- Conduct punch-list walks on completed projects to ensure final implementation adheres to design intent.
- Participate in updating and drafting new and existing systems for design change, cost reductions, and manufacturability. Assist with vendor evaluations and conduct field walks and verifications.
- Provide drawing and drafting support for details, vendor submittals, and perform engineering drafting, drawing review, drawing control, and related services required in the design of engineered systems.
- Experience in building systems mechanical design in semiconductor or related high-tech facilities.
- Thorough understanding of discipline requirements with the ability to train, lead, and mentor junior staff or new project staff.
- Demonstrate intimate knowledge of codes and standards.
- Break a project down into required tasks, assign hours to each task, and provide work estimates to leadership as needed.
- Extensive modeling and drafting experience utilizing Revit and AutoCAD.
- Extensive model review experience utilizing Navisworks.
- Ability to perform as a major program wet side or dry side lead designer.
- Participate in code review and discussion.
- Prepare deliverables for all project phases including models, plans, details, sections, flow diagrams, P&IDs, sketches, and equipment arrangement diagrams to support design and engineering leads for meetings, proposals, and construction documents.
- Attend and participate in design status updates for areas of responsibility in mechanical meetings both internal and external as needed.
- Review and adhere to specifications in developing and delivering quality designs. Provide specifications input, editing, and comments where appropriate.
- Coordinate designs and deliverables and resolve conflicts with/between all disciplines and existing field conditions where required.
- 3 - 15 years of progressive CAD drafting/design experience of process systems.
- Position requires visits and walks at an active client site in various stages of construction. Applicant must be able to walk long distances, sit and stand for extended periods, bend, stoop, twist, crawl, climb ladders, work on catwalks, work in small spaces, and lift and carry up to 25 lbs.
