Description

The Senior Commercial Loan Workout Specialist is responsible for managing a complex portfolio of criticized, classified, non-performing, and charged-off commercial and small business loans. This position serves as the leading relationship manager and primary decision-maker throughout the workout, restructuring, recovery, and resolution lifecycle.

The role provides strategic oversight of problem credit relationships, develops and executes loss mitigation strategies, and partners with borrowers, legal counsel, executive leadership, and other stakeholders to maximize recoveries while minimizing credit losses. This position also serves as a subject matter expert in special assets administration, credit risk management, regulatory compliance, and workout practices, supporting sound portfolio management and organizational risk objectives.

What You'll Do
  • Manage a complex portfolio of criticized, classified, non-performing, and charged-off commercial and small business loans, serving as the lead relationship manager throughout the workout and recovery process.
  • Provide strategic oversight of borrower performance, collateral adequacy, lien perfection, insurance coverage, covenant compliance, and risk ratings to proactively identify emerging risks and implement corrective actions.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to executive leadership by providing recommendations related to workout strategies, reserve adequacy, risk exposure, portfolio performance, and emerging credit trends.
  • Develop, negotiate, and execute complex workout, restructuring, forbearance, liquidation, note sale, foreclosure, settlement, and recovery strategies to maximize asset recovery and minimize credit losses.
  • Conduct advanced financial and credit analysis, including review of financial statements, tax returns, cash flow projections, collateral valuations, guarantor support, and industry conditions to assess repayment capacity and support strategic decision-making.
  • Lead negotiations with borrowers, guarantors, investors, and external stakeholders to achieve favorable workout outcomes while balancing business objectives with risk mitigation.
  • Oversee site inspections and collateral reviews to evaluate business operations, collateral condition, market position, and overall credit risk exposure.
  • Structure, approve, document, and monitor complex loan modifications, settlements, discounted payoffs, extensions, and other loss mitigation strategies within delegated authority.
  • Prepare and present credit memoranda, impairment analyses, reserve assessments, risk rating recommendations, action plans, and portfolio reporting for senior management, credit committees, auditors, regulators, and executive leadership.
  • Direct collection, recovery, and remediation efforts for adversely rated and non-performing credit relationships, ensuring timely escalation and resolution of material risk exposures.
  • Partner with internal and external legal counsel, receivers, bankruptcy trustees, turnaround consultants, collection agencies, and other professionals regarding bankruptcies, foreclosures, litigation, receiverships, collateral liquidations, and debt restructurings.
  • Evaluate legal remedies and recovery alternatives, providing recommendations regarding enforcement actions, settlements, note sales, charge-offs, and litigation risk.
  • Monitor and report on recovery performance, workout activity, loss mitigation efforts, and portfolio trends to support effective risk management and operational transparency.
