** Washington County's Sheriff's Office
** is currently looking for skilled law enforcement professionals that can effectively lead a variety of Sheriff's Office (SO) operations and unit/division activities. Ideal candidates will have proven administrative skills that can also manage complex projects to successful completion. Must have the ability to navigate interpersonal relationships with individuals and groups that have competing interests. Finally, candidates must be skilled at managing personnel issues effectively and in a way that demonstrates SO core values:

As a
** Lieutenant**, you will lead, plan, organize, and manage a variety of law enforcement operations and unit/division activities within the Washington County Sheriff's Office. These activities include: investigations, patrol, jail operations and administration, criminal records, internal services, and a variety of general administrative leadership roles. Incumbents perform a variety of technical tasks relative to assigned area of responsibility.
** Duties may include:
*** Plans, prioritizes, assigns, supervises, and reviews the work of staff involved in investigation, patrol, jail, services, or other administrative leadership posts.
* Recommends and assists in the implementation of goals and objectives. Establishes schedules and methods for assigned posts or work units/divisions. Implements policies and procedures that support Sheriff's Office goals, values, and operational activities.
* Evaluates operations and activities of assigned responsibilities. Recommends improvements and modifications. Prepares various reports on operations and activities.
* Supervises major crime scenes. Participates in criminal investigations and prepares cases for court and District Attorney's office. Provides credible testimony in court settings.
* Assists in creating a positive and supportive work environment. Enforces a safe workplace. Establishes a culture of teamwork and communication. Creates a workplace that promotes the organizational values. Actively promotes an environment respectful of living and working in a multicultural society.
* Conducts special departmental investigations for traffic accidents involving department personnel. Responds to complaints filed against officers; conducts internal affairs investigations. Makes recommendations to mitigate problems to appropriate agencies/Departments.
* Acts as departmental liaison to various law enforcement agencies and multi-agency councils. Cooperates with them in apprehension of criminals.
* Directs, coordinates, or supervises special departmental projects or programs including search and rescue operations, tactical negotiations team, emergency management, special narcotic programs, and deaf communicator programs.
* Participates in intergovernmental and multi-jurisdictional meetings and conferences.
* Participates in budget preparation and administration. Prepares cost estimates for budget recommendations. Submits justifications for requests. Monitors and controls expenditures within assigned program areas.
* Participates in the selection of staff; provides or coordinates staff training. Works with employees to correct deficiencies. Participates in and implements discipline process and outcomes.
