Position: Physical Therapist (Inpatient)

Position Summary

Pay range is $45.47/hr - $66.39/hr

The Physical Therapist functions as a member of the patient care team by providing physical therapy services and is accountable for assessment, treatment and education of patients with the appropriate documentation of such care. Responsible for supervising the patient care activities of physical therapist assistants, aides and students. The physical therapist is involved in helping the department meet productivity standards and participate in educational activities, program development and research activities conducted by the department or hospital.

Key Responsibilities

Performed majority of the time:

  • Provides evidence based physical therapy evaluations and treatments to adolescent, adult and geriatric patients based on principles of growth and development and life stages.
  • Documents patient evaluation, treatment, progress, and discharge in a timely manner using EMR.
  • Documents in a comprehensive manner that is compliant with local, state, and federal laws and hospital policy.
  • Bills in congruence with documented patient treatment
  • Achieves patient care productivity standards established by department
  • Supervises patient care activities completed by the PT Assistant, Aide and/or student.
  • Collaborates effectively with case management regarding discharge plan and recommendations.
  • Prioritizes patient care appropriately, coordinating duties and clinic resources in an effective manner.

Performed occasionally but critical to successful performance of the job:

  • Communicates concerns about patient’s medical status with provider as needed.
  • Participates in continuing education seminars, department in-services, safety training and other educational opportunities within the hospital and community; uses new knowledge as appropriate situations arise.
  • Participates in performance reviews.
  • Completes patient safety incident reports as needed.

Decision making and budget responsibilities (e.g. impact limited to the employee, entire unit or organization-wide):

  • Decision impact limited to the employee and the wellbeing of the patient.
  • Takes an active role in helping the department meet budgetary goals.

Licenses, Certifications and/or Registrations

  • Current unencumbered physical therapy license in the state of Oregon or ability to obtain prior to hire.
  • Health Care provider BLS certification required or within 90‑days of hire.

Job Related Skills, Abilities and Behaviors

Required

  • Knowledge of local, state, and federal rules regarding patient treatment and documentation.
  • Practices in accordance with professional licensing, laws and professional practice act.
  • Complies with guidelines of accrediting bodies (TJC, DNV etc)
  • Knowledge and utilization of appropriate physical therapy assessment, treatment and education in acute care
  • Demonstrates proficiency in operation, maintenance and use of therapeutic and hospital equipment commonly found in acute care per department checklist.
  • Excellent customer service skills and participation in patient/customer satisfaction.
  • Effective positive interpersonal and communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team.
  • Presents a personal appearance that makes a positive first impression.
  • Follows procedures for use of personal protective equipment, infection control and disposal of hazardous waste and sharps, to assure personal safety.
  • Prioritizes patient care appropriately, coordinating duties and clinic resources in an effective manner.
  • Utilizes time and resources efficiently.
  • Demonstrates confidentiality regarding patient information according to PHI level of access
  • Recognizes own limitations and seeks guidance appropriately.
  • Establishes clinical/professional relationships with primary care providers, patients, patients’ family members and other health care providers.
  • Promotes accident prevention and reports potential hazards to maintain a safe environment.
