GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:

The staff audiologist works closely with the Director of the Pacific Ear Clinic, the Clinic Manager, the Director of the School of Audiology, and the school's clinical education team to ensure that the Pacific Ear Clinic successfully meets the school's commitment to academic and clinical education of the doctoral audiology students while delivering exemplary audio logic care in a thriving community clinic.

This is a year-round administrative appointment. The staff audiologist will be responsible primarily for patient care within the Pacific Ear Clinic, with clinical supervision for the School of Audiology as assigned by supervisor.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

Patient Care Functions/Responsibilities:
  • Administer audio logic evaluations to collect information on type and degree of hearing loss, using specialized instruments and equipment.
  • Evaluate diagnostic findings to determine diagnoses and courses of treatment.
  • Use medical diagnostic techniques within the scope of an Audiologist.
  • Document findings and progress within the patient's electronic medical record and report to the appropriate personnel.
  • Adhere to established security and patient privacy (HIPAA) guidelines when disclosing patient information.
  • Conduct candidacy evaluations and provide fitting and follow-up services for patients seeking implantable hearing devices.
  • Identify the communication needs of patients.
  • Counsel and instruct patients in techniques to effectively manage hearing impairment, referring patients for additional medical or educational services as needed.
  • Plan and conduct treatment programs (hearing and balance) for patients, consulting with physicians, nurses, psychologists, and other health care personnel as necessary.
  • Recommend and fit earmolds, hearing aids, and assistive devices according to patients' needs and nature of impairment, providing and documenting appropriate follow-up support.
  • Counsel patients regarding hearing conservation and dispense hearing protection devices as appropriate.
  • Administer balance and falls risk evaluations. Analyze results and report findings to the requesting physician.
  • Use effective interpersonal communication techniques.
  • Communicate technical information regarding hearing or balance related topics to physicians and other professional
  • Work in a cooperative manner with management/supervision, coworkers, patients and vendors.
  • Provide direct patient care and student supervision for approximately 75% of workload.
  • Assume responsibility for a given patient's care as necessary when the audiologist-of-record cannot be reached.
  • Reviews records and charts, as needed, and directs distribution of documents for referrals and records requests in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Attends to other patient care functions and responsibilities as assigned or necessary for the roles and responsibilities of the position.
Educational/Supervisory Functions/Responsibilities:
  • Provides clinical supervision of AuD students within the Pacific Ear Clinic, as scheduled.
  • Provides and oversees opportunities for prospective students to observe within the Pacific Ear Clinic in compliance with HIPAA regulations at the discretion of the clinic director.
  • Assists with teaching of clinical aspects of doctoral audiology education, both didactic and experiential, as requested.
  • Attends to other educational/supervisory functions and responsibilities as assigned or necessary for the roles and responsibilities of the position.
University Service Functions/Responsibilities:
  • Engages with other programs and faculty of the College of Health Professions for interprofessional opportunities in clinical service provision.
  • Facilitates community partnerships and relationships that further clinical service and serves as a liaison between the Pacific Ear Clinic and the audiology practice community.
  • Serves on clinic, school, college, and university committees and work groups as assigned and/or as appropriate to the roles and responsibilities of the position.
  • Attends to other university functions and responsibilities as assigned or necessary for the roles and responsibilities of the position.
SECONDARY FUNCTIONS:
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
