System Build, Test and Rework Technician – Assistant I – Lab Support
UST is seeking a System Build, Test and Rework Technician to support day‑to‑day operations in a semiconductor validation and development lab located in Hillsboro, Oregon. The role involves hands‑on hardware assembly/disassembly, fine‑pitch soldering/rework, testbed setup and debug/troubleshooting as well as inventory management. Remote or hybrid work is not supported.
Key Responsibilities- Fine‑pitch soldering/rework utilizing microscopes.
- Debugging circuits with a DMM, Programmable PS.
- Troubleshooting hardware issues / failures / malfunctions.
- Conduct hardware‑level troubleshooting and component replacement under engineering guidance.
- Follow ESD safety procedures and maintain a clean, organized, and secure lab environment.
- Assemble and disassemble systems, boards, and components such as motherboards, CPUs, memory, and power supplies.
- Support BIOS and firmware updates and assist in system bring‑up and smoke testing.
- Collaborate with validation engineers to prepare systems for testing and resolve setup issues.
- Maintain lab infrastructure including test benches, power strips, tools, and network connectivity.
- Accurately input inventory data into the record systems from various sources, ensuring data integrity and consistency.
- Experience in Electronics, Electrical or related fields.
- Surface‑mount soldering (603, 402, 201 components).
- Able to interpret ECO to apply reworks.
- Familiarity with firmware flashing tools (e.g., Dediprog, BAT scripts, OS utilities).
- Basic knowledge of operating system installation (Windows/Linux) and driver install/setup.
- Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills.
- Good collaboration and organization.
- Following detailed documentation.
- Experience with reading schematics & board layout.
- Debugging circuits with DMM, Programmable PS.
- Proficient with Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint).
- Practical experience with HW diagnostics tools.
- Good communication, teamwork, and documentation abilities.
- Advanced soldering skills.
- Experience supporting semiconductor validation or platform bring‑up labs.
- Familiarity with lab asset management and tracking systems.
- Experience with high resolution photography equipment & software.
- Debugging circuit with DMM, Programmable PS.
- Experience or strong interest in Electronics, Electrical, or Computer Architecture.
- High school diploma or equivalent;
Associate degree in a related field preferred. - 0‑2 years of experience in platform enabling/debug.
- 0‑2 years of experience in fine‑pitch soldering.
- Ability to lift up to 40 lbs, work on lab benches and handle ESD‑sensitive components safely.
Location:
Oregon.
Compensation Range: $34,000–$51,000.
Full‑time, regular employees accrue a minimum of 10 days of paid vacation per year, receive 6 days of paid sick leave each year (pro‑rated for new hires throughout the year), 10 paid holidays, and are eligible for paid bereavement leave and jury duty. They are eligible to participate in the Company’s 401(k) Retirement Plan with employer matching. They and their dependents residing in the US are eligible for medical, dental, and vision insurance, as well as the following company‑paid employee‑only benefits: basic life insurance, accidental death and disability insurance, and short‑ and long‑term disability benefits.
