ASL (American Sign Language) Interpreter

Location: Groner Elementary – Hillsboro School District
Reports to: Coordinator
Salary: $27.49 – $32.86 per hour, DOE
FTE: 0.9375, 7.5 hours per day
Work Days: 190 days per year

General DescriptionASL Interpreters facilitate communication by interpreting in classrooms, assemblies, and meetings between staff and Deaf/HH students and/or families. Interpreters also interpret for visiting organizations and during sports and other activities. They perform behavioral management as needed and tutor students to keep them from falling behind.
Qualifications- Bachelor's Degree from an Interpreter Education Program or in a related field (preferred).
- Current or temporary Oregon ASL Interpreter License.
- Experience working with children (preferred).
- Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging.
- Professionalism and effective human relations.
- Regular communication with supervisor.
- Proficiency in computer and internet-based applications, including email, internet software, Google Suite, and Microsoft Word.
- High accuracy and organizational skills.
- Proficiency in reading and writing English.
- Knowledge of tutorial/instructional procedures (preferred).
- Interpret for Deaf/HH students.
- Participate in IEP/IFSP meetings as a resource person.
- Interpret school-related meetings.
- Participate in staff meetings and trainings.
- Provide tutoring, academic, and language support to Deaf/HH students.
- Interpret English to ASL and ASL to English.
- Maintain regular and punctual attendance.
- Complete 12 seat hours of continuing professional development related to sign language interpretation annually and meet all ASL Interpreter Licensure requirements.
- Complete required paperwork timely.
- Represent the ESD and assigned location professionally in interactions with families, community, staff, students, and partner agencies.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
