Overview of the Job
The Environmental Monitoring (EM) Technician supports clinical manufacturing of next-generation Cell and Gene Therapies (CGT) within the Hillsboro Innovative Therapies (HIT) organization. Working as part of the Analytical Development and Testing (ADT) team, this role ensures manufacturing environments remain in a validated state of control. Primary duties include conducting viable/non-viable air and surface sampling, critical utility monitoring, entering data into LIMS, managing EM equipment, and strictly adhering to cGMP, gowning, and cleanroom safety protocols.
Job Specifications
Primary Responsibilities
• Execute viable (air and surface), non-viable particulate, and critical utility sampling across cleanroom and unclassified manufacturing spaces.
• Maintain strict compliance with current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP), Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and quality regulations.
• Use Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) for sample scheduling, data logging, and technical reporting.
• Coordinate response activities when environmental limits are exceeded, including assisting with excursion data collection, investigation support, and facility restart protocols.
• Perform routine laboratory maintenance, including disinfectant/reagent preparation, equipment cleaning, calibration verification, and cleanroom supply stocking.
• Comply with all mandatory cleanroom gowning and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements.
• Report quality, environmental, or regulatory issues immediately to management.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
•
Cleanroom & Aseptic Practices
:
Ability to operate effectively within classified cleanroom environments following aseptic principles and strict gowning protocols.

Physical Demands
:
Capability to work in cleanroom spaces with prolonged periods of standing or sitting.
Ability to perform frequent lifting (up to 25 lbs.), bending, reaching, and twisting.
• Experience using LIMS or laboratory data systems for tracking and documentation.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Flexibility to work variable hours, shifts, and weekends based on clinical manufacturing timelines.
Preferred Qualifications
• Basic understanding or practical experience with cGMP regulations, contamination control, and environmental monitoring in a pharmaceutical or biotech setting.
Education and Experience
• Bachelor’s degree (B.S./B.A.) in a relevant scientific discipline (Microbiology, Biology, Chemistry, or related field) OR equivalent hands-on experience performing Environmental Monitoring.
