Responsibilities
  • Supervisory Responsibilities:
    • Responsible for hiring, training, managing, evaluating, disciplining, and terminating all Nurses and Medication Assistants.
    • Determine adequate staffing levels and prepare staffing schedules using approved tools.
    • Replace absent Team Members as required per resident care and facility needs.
    • Ensure proper training and certification of all Nurses and Medication Assistants as required by Merrill Gardens and state/local guidelines.
    • Mentor Team Members using electronic care system.
    • Supervise Nurses and Medication Assistants to evaluate performance on an ongoing basis to ensure residents receive appropriate care.
    • Provide staff in‑service training, as indicated by the facility and resident needs, to ensure Team Members have received necessary training for accurate resident care.
  • Administration:
    • Adhere to budgetary guidelines established by Merrill Gardens.
    • Provide General Manager with weekly status reports on all AL residents.
    • Maintain all resident records and department documentation.
    • Audit AL services for regulatory compliance.
    • Review and verify all Nurses and Medication Assistants are using the time clock appropriately and taking breaks as indicated by policy and regulations.
    • Respond quickly to all emergency situations, including but not limited to:
    • Assisting in fire control and resident evacuation procedures during fire/disaster.
    • Ensuring care personnel know actions to be taken during fire/disaster.
    • Perform CPR as necessary.
    • Meet continuing education requirements when necessary for state licensing/registration.
    • Provide additional management reports as required.
    • Ensure the AL work area, which may include offices, medication rooms, etc., are clean and orderly.
Other Duties
  • Other duties as assigned.
Education & Qualifications
  • Current LPN or RN licensure, as specified by state agency, preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
  • Must be able to obtain First Aid/CPR certification within 30 days of hire where required by state.
  • Completion of all Dementia training required by state regulations within 6 months of hire date if applicable.
Experience
  • 3 years of related experience, training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in Assisted Living, geriatric nursing, or gerontology and dementia care.
  • Experience in medication administration and hands‑on personal care preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability in budgeting and cost control.
Physical Requirements

This role involves frequent standing, walking, lifting (up to 75 lbs), and assisting with resident care. Regular bending, reaching, and physical movement are required throughout the workday. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
