The City of Hillsboro’s Fleet Department within Public Works is looking for a dedicated Vehicle & Equipment Technician to join our team. You’ll be working in our state‑of‑the‑art facility, ensuring the reliability and safety of the city’s fleet, including essential fire and police vehicles.
Our state‑of‑the‑art repair facility is equipped with the latest tools and technology, providing an excellent environment for our team to perform their best work, keeping essential services running smoothly. Additionally, the city provides each technician with their own toolbox and tools, as well as keeping an inventory of specialized tools for the shop. This position is a day shift position with three work hour options, 5‑8’s, 4‑10’s, and a 9‑80 schedule.
WhatYou Will Be Doing
As a Vehicle and Equipment Technician, you will be responsible for performing journey level maintenance, repairing, and servicing a wide range of city‑owned vehicles and equipment. This is an exciting opportunity to grow in a city with diverse vehicles and equipment. Responsibilities include troubleshooting problems; providing customer service; operating and maintaining complex vehicle systems and test equipment.
Key Responsibilities- Prepare and modify city vehicles for city use.
- Maintain city‑owned vehicles and equipment, including performing a full range of inspections, services, and related preventative maintenance.
- Perform scheduled and non‑scheduled repairs on city vehicles and equipment.
- Maintain accurate information and records of work performed.
- Work after hours and on weekends depending upon weather conditions and work task requirements.
- Perform preventative maintenance inspections and services city‑owned equipment and vehicles.
- Operating and maintaining complex vehicle systems and test equipment.
- Perform inspections and quality checks to ensure regulatory compliance and troubleshoots repairs of all systems and related components.

Upcoming/ Current Projects- Training for New Electric Vehicle Technology and other alternative fueled vehicles.
- Instituting a quick lube lane for quick turnaround time for city customers for oil changes.
Associate degree or 2‑year certificate in Diesel or Automotive Technology, and 1 to 2 years of experience in maintenance and repair of diesel and gas equipment; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above. Based on assignment, additional training or certifications may be required.
Licensing/CertificationsValid Driver’s License and safe driving record
