About the Opportunity

The Juvenile Department is currently looking to fill two Juvenile Counselor II positions to help further our mission to protect the public by reducing delinquency and restoring victims and the community by holding youth accountable.

As a Counselor II, you will work directly with youth and families navigating the juvenile justice system while supporting behavioral change, coordinating services, and representing the department in court. This is a hands‑on job that is impactful work for professionals who want to make a difference with structure, ethics, and support.

You will be able to build working relationships with youth and families to support positive changes, supervise youth on probation or informal supervision, conduct assessments and create case plans that balance accountability, growth, and safety. You will also be coordinating with schools, service providers, attorneys, and community partners. In addition, you will prepare court reports and confidently represent your cases in court.

Bilingual Positions

Designated bilingual positions require that the incumbent have knowledge of another language besides English. It is required to possess precise writing skills (including spelling, grammar, and punctuation), fluent speaking skills, and the ability to communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing. Upon successfully passing the applicable proficiency assessment test in a selected language, employees will receive bilingual pay in the amount of five percent (5%) of their base pay rate, exclusive of any other incentive pay, or a flat rate of seventy‑five dollars ($75) per pay period, whichever is greater.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in counseling, psychology, sociology, social work, or a field applicable to the practice of juvenile justice; AND one (1) year of experience working with juveniles and families in the counseling and case management of juveniles and families; OR
  • Bachelor’s degree in counseling, psychology, sociology, social work, or a field applicable to the practice of juvenile justice; AND three (3) years of experience working with juveniles and families in the counseling and case management of juveniles and families; OR
  • Associate’s degree in criminal justice, counseling, psychology, sociology, social work or field applicable to the practice of juvenile justice; AND five (5) years of supervised work experience in the counseling of juveniles and families; OR
  • Seven (7) years of supervised work experience in the counseling of juveniles and families.
Special Qualifications
  • Possession of a driver’s license valid in the State of Oregon and an acceptable driving record per Washington County policy.
  • Completion of a criminal history check in accordance with Oregon Administrative Rules.
  • Some positions may require the knowledge of the Spanish language including the ability to communicate clearly and concisely in Spanish, both orally and in writing.
