Please note that this is a contract role providing services to Microsoft through external staffing partners of Allegis Global Solutions. If you are selected for this role, you will be employed by AGS and will not be an employee of Microsoft.

Summary

We are seeking a talented software engineer to join our team working on critical infrastructure that powers cloud computing s position focuses on low-level systems programming, where you will be responsible for developing and maintaining Linux kernel components and device drivers for next‑generation server hardware. You will work closely with hardware teams to ensure seamless integration between silicon and software, optimizing performance and reliability for large‑scale cloud deployments.

This role requires deep technical expertise in operating systems internals and the ability to solve complex problems at the intersection of hardware and software. You will contribute to the foundation that enables millions of users to access cloud services reliably and efficiently.

Job Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain Linux kernel subsystems and modules for server‑class hardware
  • Design, implement, and debug device drivers for custom silicon components
  • Collaborate with hardware engineering teams to define software interfaces and requirements
  • Optimize kernel and driver code for performance, stability, and scalability in cloud environments
  • Review and analyze system‑level issues, providing root cause analysis and implementing fixes
  • Participate in code reviews and contribute to team knowledge sharing
  • Work within project timelines to deliver high‑quality software components
  • Modify and enhance existing kernel databases and management systems as needed
  • Coordinate with cross‑functional teams to determine project scope and technical limitations
  • Document technical designs, implementation details, and troubleshooting procedures
Requirements
  • 5-7 years of professional software engineering experience
  • 5 years of hands‑on Linux kernel subsystem development
  • 5 years of Linux device driver development experience
  • 5 years working with server System‑on‑Chip architectures
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for technical collaboration
  • Excellent problem‑solving abilities and analytical thinking
  • Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities and deadlines
  • Customer service orientation and interpersonal skills for cross‑team collaboration
  • Mentoring capabilities to support team members and provide constructive feedback
  • Deep understanding of the software development lifecycle from requirements to delivery
  • Advanced troubleshooting skills for complex system‑level issues
  • Comprehensive knowledge of computer hardware architecture and software interactions
  • Proficiency in C programming and systems‑level development tools
  • Experience with version control systems and collaborative development workflows
