Local Driver

Job Overview

The Local Driver is responsible for the safe and timely operation of the motor vehicle assigned for transportation of service crew members and cargo. When the driver also serves as the Crew Leader, additional leadership responsibilities are assumed.

• Safety:
  Perform a complete pre‑trip inspection of the vehicle and document the inspection; arrange for repairs, replacements, fueling, or weight checks before departure; ensure the driver’s log (paper or ELD) is current and that all safety policies are followed.
• Operate the vehicle safely in accordance with legal guidelines, company policies, and road/lot conditions.
• Quality & Profitability:
  Confirm job expectations, vehicle and crew assignments, and routing with Dispatch; load all necessary paperwork, equipment, and materials before departure; protect residences and facilities per QLT guidelines.
• Use a Parts Box, pad and wrap items for loading, and carry or dolly items between residences/facilities and vehicles or containers.
• Safely stack and unstack items in the vehicle or container; place items in the destination residence or facility per customer direction.
• Identify and separate non‑allowables; note items requiring third‑party crating/uncrating; assist with assembly and disassembly of furniture and fixtures as directed.
• Remove debris and leave the work site clean and orderly.
• Additional Crew Leader Duties (if applicable):
  Communicate with Dispatch; lead customer relations, pre‑arrival calls, and crew introductions; serve as the on‑site point of contact; ensure all material and equipment is available; conduct a tailgate safety meeting; supervise crew work; review job requirements with the crew; complete detailed inventory checks; file job paperwork and electronic forms; finish end‑of‑day checklists.

• High school diploma, GED, or equivalent education and one to two years of related experience or training.
• Commercial moving experience preferred.
• Valid CDL driver’s license.
• Ability to read, interpret, and write routine reports; speak effectively before groups.
• Math skills for calculating figures, percentages, and volumes.
• Problem‑solving ability with standardized situations.
• Computer proficiency: move management, timekeeping, HRIS, and other job‑related software.

• Must be comfortable driving on freeways, in major metropolitan cities, congested business districts, and narrow residential streets.
• Exposure to outside weather conditions; moderate noise level.
• Regular standing, walking, sitting, and use of hands for lifting, reaching, and handling; kneeling, crouching, or crawling as needed.
• Regular lifting or moving of up to 50 pounds unassisted.
• Requires close, distance, and depth vision; ability to adjust focus.
• Must not have mental, nervous, or functional disorders that could impair safe vehicle operation.
