Job Summary

The Class A Truck Driver is responsible for safely transporting waterworks materials and construction supplies to customer job sites while ensuring timely deliveries and compliance with all Department of Transportation (Use the "Apply for this Job" box below). This role operates a tractor‑trailer, performs required vehicle inspections, secures loads, maintains delivery documentation, and provides professional customer service. The driver also assists with warehouse operations and forklift activities as needed.

Job Responsibilities
  • Safely operate a Class A commercial tractor‑trailer to transport materials to customer locations and construction sites.
  • Deliver products, including pipes, valves, fittings, fire hydrants, and other construction materials, according to established delivery schedules.
  • Verify delivery locations, directions, and customer information before completing deliveries.
  • Ensure all materials are properly secured and transported within legal weight limits.
  • Obtain customer signatures and complete all required delivery documentation accurately.
  • Communicate delivery status, route updates, and any issues with supervisors throughout the workday.
  • Pick up customer returns and verify returned materials against required documentation.
  • Collect local purchase orders and return all delivery paperwork to the warehouse.
  • Perform daily pre‑trip and post‑trip vehicle inspections.
  • Report vehicle maintenance concerns, accidents, moving violations, or equipment defects promptly.
  • Fuel and maintain assigned vehicles as required.
  • Operate a sit‑down forklift to load materials when necessary.
  • Assist with warehouse operations and material handling as business needs require.
  • Maintain compliance with all Department of Transportation  and workplace safety policies.
  • Represent the organization professionally while providing excellent customer service.
  • Work overtime as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience operating Class A commercial vehicles required.
  • Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) required.
  • Minimum age of 21 years required.
  • Valid DOT medical certification and all required state‑issued commercial driving certifications required.
  • Experience operating manual transmission commercial vehicles required.
  • Experience operating a sit‑down forklift preferred; training may be provided.
  • Knowledge of Department of Transportation  and safe driving practices.
  • Ability to safely secure and transport heavy construction materials.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills.
  • Ability to complete delivery documentation accurately.
  • Ability to work independently and manage delivery schedules.
  • Ability to lift, move, and handle materials as required.
  • Willingness to work overtime and travel to delivery locations throughout the assigned service area.
Education
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
Work Experience
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience operating Class A commercial vehicles required.
  • Experience operating manual transmission commercial vehicles required.
  • Experience operating a sit‑down forklift preferred.
