Position: Maintenance Tech 2- Overnight

Position Overview

Hours:

6PM-6AM.

Schedule:

3,2-2,3 (Off every other weekend). Base hourly rate: $35.60.

This Maintenance Technician supports maintenance on production and facility equipment, ensuring safety, productivity, and machine uptime for roofing materials manufacturing.

Responsibilities
  • Follow Johns Manville safety and environmental procedures and policies.
  • Attend plant safety and training meetings as scheduled.
  • Follow Job Safety Analysis (JSA’s), use safe work practices, and report hazardous conditions.
  • Wear protective clothing and equipment as required.
  • Develop JSA’s for new tasks and review annually.
  • Perform routine and non‑routine maintenance on mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Apply advanced knowledge of electrical (single‑phase and 3‑phase), mechanical, hydraulics, and pneumatics systems.
  • Install and repair electrical conduit, cable, connections, controls, grounding, and related components.
  • Use electrical and mechanical schematics to troubleshoot, install, or modify equipment.
  • Conduct electrical measurements with voltmeter, ammeter, wattmeter, etc.
  • Inspect equipment and report defective parts or unsatisfactory conditions.
  • Maintain, adjust, service, and lubricate equipment, ensuring proper alignment and operation.
  • Participate in continuous improvement and Root Cause Corrective Action (RCCA) teams.
  • Assist co‑workers as directed and complete other work assigned by supervisor.
  • Provide feedback and solutions to leadership on critical equipment issues affecting safety or operations.
  • Display flexible outlook toward change management, cross‑functional teamwork, and learning new tools and methodologies.
  • Participate in daily housekeeping efforts and keep job site and maintenance shop clean after each shift.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Leadership Responsibilities
  • No direct supervision of employees, but act as a leader with all plant department employees.
  • Communicate status of planned and unplanned jobs, parts availability, and needed engineering or technical resources to plant supervision.
Requirements
  • Signed off on all Maintenance Technician I job qualifications.
  • 2–5 years of multi‑craft maintenance experience.
  • Strong commitment to safety.
  • Ability to work well with others.
  • Strong problem‑solving capabilities.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Intermediate computer skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and handle multiple priorities and projects.
  • Ability to disassemble, diagnose, repair, and perform preventative maintenance on mechanical equipment such as pumps, gearboxes, reducers, couplings, seals, rotating elements, blowers, fans, hydraulic units, valves, chillers, and compressors.
  • Advanced mechanical aptitude including pipe fitting and fabricating.
  • Knowledge of hand tools and power tools.
  • Knowledge of shop machinery such as hydraulic press, mill & drill press, lathe, band saw, and chop saw.
  • General knowledge of building lighting systems.
  • General knowledge of AC/heating systems.
  • General knowledge of building fire alarm systems.
  • Advanced knowledge of Lock, Tag, Clear, and Try program.
  • General knowledge of PLC troubleshooting.
  • General knowledge of VFD troubleshooting.
  • Understanding of 480V system and arc‑flash training with safe practices per NFPA 70E.
  • Ability to troubleshoot process heating and cooling equipment.
  • Consistent decision making while being flexible with work assignments and priorities.
  • Local travel for training purposes.
Physical Requirements
  • Stand for extended periods.
  • Manually lift, push, or pull at least 50 pounds safely.
  • Use hands for repetitive motion, grabbing, feeling, sensing, pulling.
  • Work safely in a fast‑paced, sometimes stressful environment.
  • Work safely in an often‑dusty environment with a broad range of temperatures.
  • Withstand a 12‑ or 8‑hour rotating shift schedule.
  • Bend, stoop, kneel repetitively.
  • Reach or work above shoulder height.
