Job Summary
Sr. Trailer Repair Technician – DOT Management Level, Individual Contributor. Flexible work option; no remote, must work at a specified Cox location. No travel or shift required.
CompensationHourly base pay $32.07 - $48.13, depending on location and candidate qualification. May include commission and incentive programs.
Responsibilities- Perform certified DOT inspections, preventative maintenance, light and advanced repairs on light, medium, and heavy‑duty trailers.
- Conduct routine maintenance such as oil changes, battery checks, and lubrication of equipment.
- Diagnose and repair trailer brakes, air lines, auxiliary pumps, engines, liftgates, brake chambers, steering systems, welding, fabrication, and replacement of panels, body and framework.
- Use hand tools, precision instruments, trailer‑specific tools, welding equipment, lifts, and jacks.
- Document work on Repair Orders and maintain required DOT and company forms, including uploading pictures via Karmak application.
- Work independently to determine parts needed and coordinate with the Shop Parts Department.
- Maintain a clean, safe work environment, assist in cleanup and conduct daily pre/post‑trip inspections.
- Support and collaborate with Shop Trailer Technicians I/II on diagnostics and advanced repairs when required.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, DOT regulations and all company safety and environmental policies.
- Participate in required safety training and keep certifications current.
- High School Diploma or GED with 5 years of related experience (could be 3 years with a related degree/certification, or 7 years experience).
- Must provide a set of hand tools necessary for the job.
- Ongoing training and certification preferable; participation in company training required.
- Candidate must pass DOT‑regulated pre‑employment background screening and DOT physical; a valid DOT medical card within 4 months may replace a physical.
- Must be at least 21 years old and hold a valid state driver’s license with qualified driver file.
- Comprehensive knowledge of trailer parts and systems and experience diagnosing and repairing them.
- Physical ability to lift, bend, climb, stand, and walk for extended periods and handle moderate heavy labor.
- Strong problem‑solving skills, logical reasoning, and ability to evaluate alternatives.
- Excellent communication, both written and verbal, with the ability to engage effectively with teammates and customers.
- ASE T8 (PMI) – required or within 18 months.
- ASE 608/609 – required.
- CDL‑A – required.
- Preferred: ASE T4, T5, T6, T7.
