Campus Safety Manager
The Nueva School seeks a collaborative, calm, and community-centered Campus Safety Manager to lead and strengthen campus-wide safety, security, and emergency preparedness efforts across our two-campus independent school community. This role is responsible for creating and maintaining a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment for students, employees, families, and visitors while balancing operational excellence with relationship-building and student-centered care. The Campus Safety Manager serves as a visible leader and trusted resource within the Nueva community and partners closely with school leadership, facilities, human resources, and outside agencies to support proactive safety practices and emergency readiness.
PrimaryResponsibilities Campus Safety Leadership
- Lead and coordinate day-to-day campus safety and security operations across both campuses.
- Support consistent safety practices, conditions, and expectations.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for campus safety concerns and emergency response coordination.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with students, employees, families, and visitors while fostering a culture of safety, trust, and care.
- Create and ensure campus safety conditions and policies that align with school policies, California law, and independent school best practices.
- Create and coordinate emergency preparedness planning, Emergency Response Team (ERT) drills, training, and crisis response communications and procedures.
- Create, maintain, and update emergency response resources, protocols, and safety documentation.
- Partner with school leadership and outside agencies regarding emergency planning and incident response.
- Respond to emergencies, safety concerns, and incidents in a calm, professional, and solutions-oriented manner.
- Support de-escalation efforts and conflict resolution when situations arise.
- Monitor campus and adjacent community activity and proactively identify safety and operational concerns.
- Support visitor management procedures and campus access protocols.
- Assist with traffic flow, parking management, and special event safety planning.
- Use and maintain radio and communication systems to coordinate campus operations and emergency response.
- Complete incident documentation and maintain accurate records related to safety matters.
- Support school-wide events, evening programs, and occasional weekend activities as needed.
- Ensure compliance with applicable state and federal safety regulations, mandated reporting requirements, and school policies.
- Assist with campus safety education and training for faculty, staff, contractors, and community members.
- Partner with Human Resources and school leadership on student and employee safety matters.
- Support implementation of evolving California independent school safety requirements and best practices.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
- Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in campus safety, school administration, emergency management, law enforcement, security operations, or a related field.
- Experience creating and implementing safety policies and procedures.
- Experience working in a collaborative environment.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and relationship-building skills.
- Demonstrated ability to remain calm, professional, and solutions-oriented during high-pressure situations.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment, discretion, and confidentiality.
- Commitment to creating an inclusive, respectful, and welcoming environment for all members of the community.
- Ability to work collaboratively across departments and with diverse constituencies.
- CPR and First Aid Certification, or willingness to obtain upon hire.
- Experience working in an independent school, educational, or youth-centered environment.
- Training in de-escalation, trauma-informed practices, conflict resolution, and/or emergency response systems.
- Familiarity with California school safety requirements and emergency preparedness practices.
- Experience coordinating drills, safety training, and emergency response planning.
- Bilingual or multilingual abilities are a plus.
The full-time salary range for this position is $95,000 - $135,000. The starting salary is based on, but not limited to, factors including type and years of experience, education level, and expertise.
