Statement Of Purpose
The Prevention & Sexual Health Specialist serves as a frontline professional dedicated to reducing the impact of HIV, Viral Hepatitis, and STIs within the community. The primary objective of this position is to execute a comprehensive “status-neutral” approach to sexual health, providing high-impact testing services, expert risk-reduction counseling, and seamless navigation to both medical treatment and modern prevention biomedical tools, such as PrEP, nPEP, and DoxyPEP.
This role is specialized in engaging and building trust with populations disproportionately affected by these public health issues.
- Testing & Counseling:
Conduct HIV, HCV, and STI testing, including pre- and post-test counseling and evidence-based risk reduction education. - Strategic Community Outreach:
Identify and characterize social networks and community venues to implement recruitment strategies that reach high-risk individuals in various settings. - Comprehensive Risk Reduction:
Provide specialized sexual health education through individualized sessions and group interventions, focusing on evidence-based behavioral change and HIV/STI/Viral Hepatitis prevention. - Integrated Linkage:
Direct the coordination of referrals and “warm handoffs” to ensure clients are successfully linked to HIV medical care or essential prevention tools like PrEP, nPEP, and DoxyPEP. - Holistic Navigation:
Facilitate client access to essential support systems, including insurance navigation, housing resources, transportation assistance, and vocational support to address barriers to care. - Interdisciplinary
Collaboration:
Act as a liaison between the agency, medical providers, and community partners to coordinate client conferences and ensure a unified approach to care and treatment. - Curriculum and Material Development:
Design and distribute appropriate outreach materials, flyers, and program curricula that reflect current trends in epidemiology and prevention methodologies. - Data Management and Evaluation:
Ensure rigorous documentation of all client interactions through case notes and assessments while collecting data for monthly program statistics and progress reports. - Professional and Community Advocacy:
Represent the program and agency at committee meetings and community workshops to promote sexual health awareness and program visibility. - Program Compliance:
Adhere to all established protocols, timelines, and scopes of work while achieving monthly goals to ensure program sustainability and effectiveness.
- Bachelor’s Degree in human services with one year of relevant prevention experience.
- Experience working with diverse populations, including those affected by HIV, substance use, and socioeconomic barriers.
- Bilingual (Spanish/English) is an asset.
- Clinical Knowledge:
Comprehensive understanding of HIV/AIDS, Viral Hepatitis, STIs, and biomedical prevention tools including PrEP and nPEP. - Linguistic Proficiency:
Must be able to speak, read, and write proficiently in English; bilingual fluency in Spanish is a strong asset. - Technical Proficiency:
Skilled in the use of word processing, basic computer software, and the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint). - Behavioral
Competencies:
Proven ability to utilize de-escalation techniques and maintain strict professional boundaries and standards. - Operational Adaptability:
Ability to determine priorities, multi-task, and work effectively in a fast-paced, changing environment both independently and as part of a team. - Communication & Interpersonal
Skills:
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work comfortably with diverse populations and show sensitivity to psychosocial issues. - Logistical Capacity:
Ability to commute between Hillsborough County and Pinellas County and maintain a reliable, accessible vehicle.
- Must possess and maintain valid Florida driver’s license and proof of insurance
- Must have reliable and accessible auto vehicle.
