POSITION PURPOSE
The CTE Teacher plans and provides appropriate learning experiences for students enrolled in the Career and Technical Education program. S/he creates an environment conducive to intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development, ensuring success for every student. The CTE Teacher supervises students in various school-related settings, monitors and evaluates outcomes, and communicates with students, parents, staff, and the community. The CTE Teacher develops, selects, and modifies instructional plans and materials to meet all students’ needs, maintains records, follows procedures, and ensures the proper use of equipment and facilities.
Subjects may include Agriculture, Allied Health, Business, Computer Science, Biotechnology, Family and Consumer Science, Health Occupations, and more.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Extensive knowledge of OCS CTE curriculum and effective instructional practices
- Thorough understanding of the teaching and learning process
- Knowledge of the job market related to the specific CTE discipline
- Ability to provide instruction that reflects multiple perspectives and multicultural education
- Ability to infuse technology into the curriculum
- Ability to monitor safety and well‑being of students, especially during inclusive activities
- Ability to motivate and inspire students
- Ability to maintain a clean and orderly environment
- Ability to perform general clerical duties
- Ability to maintain order and discipline in classrooms and other school environments
- Ability to operate common office machines
- Basic file and record management
- Effective collaboration with administrators, colleagues, teachers, students, parents, and the community
- Excellent oral and written communication and human relations skills
Education, Training, and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution in an applicable CTE field appropriate for the level(s)
- If transferring from another school system, must have received routine meets standards or above standard evaluations with no action plans
- Alternatively, an equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities
- Valid CTE Teacher’s License issued by the state of NC in the applicable field and level
- Not on the NCDPI list of teachers no longer qualified and not currently subject to a revocation hearing
- Valid driver’s license issued by the NC Department of Motor Vehicles
- One year of documented work experience related to business, industry, or labor, or one year as a CTE instructor in any area
- Demonstrated record of achieving Highly Qualified status on evaluations
- Spanish speaking
- Plan a program of study that meets the needs, interests, and abilities of students
- Teach assigned classes consistently at designated times
- Create a classroom environment that encourages student involvement and enables attainment of learning objectives
- Provide an instructional program that meets the needs of all students
- Prepare for classes assigned and provide written evidence upon request
