Overview
The Orange County Health Department has opening for a Family Navigator. The work involves the responsibility for partnering with families who are struggling to make ends meet in Orange County as part of the work of the Family Success Alliance (FSA) through education, facilitation, collaboration, and advocacy to improve health outcomes. An employee in this class has responsibility for helping families navigate the complex systems of healthcare, mental health, social services, housing, and educational support by working with neighborhood schools, healthcare, housing, and other local agencies.
Responsibilities- Work under the regular supervision of the FSA Human Services Manager with leeway to exercise independent judgment in making decisions regarding client needs and requests within the framework of the Family Success Alliance program model.
- Navigate the complex systems of healthcare, mental health, social services, housing, and educational support by collaborating with neighborhood schools, healthcare providers, housing agencies, and other local organizations.
- Perform related work as required.

NOTE:

- Possession of a High School Diploma or General Educational Development (GED) test equivalency
- AND one (1) year of working experience in human services.
- Bi-lingual applicants in Burmese/Karen or Spanish are highly encouraged to apply.
- Applicants who have work experience in navigating human service systems, identifying needed community resources, serving as cultural interlocutors and/or translator are preferred.
- Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of North Carolina for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
- All offers of employment are conditional upon successful clearance of pre-employment drug testing and SBI background check. Employment cannot commence until the employee has been cleared.
- In accordance with Section 28 of the Orange County Code of Ordinances, and/or relevant State and Federal statutes, candidates for employment may be required to undergo fingerprinting and a criminal history background check based on the job responsibilities of the position. A fingerprinting check is conducted by the State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) and a criminal history background check is conducted by an authorized Federal or State regulatory agency to determine eligibility for appointment.
Employment is contingent upon successful clearance through these checks, which are mandated for certain roles depending on the nature of the job and applicable laws. Further, all offers of employment are contingent upon the satisfactory verification of your eligibility for employment, successful completion of the required pre-employment testing and/or screening, including drug testing when required and the submission and approval of all new hire documentation completion of your new hire paperwork.
Must be able to travel and serve clients throughout Orange County and may be required to work hours outside of traditional business hours.
