Job Overview

UNC Hillsborough Hospital is hiring a Registered Nurse (Clinical Nurse IV) for the 3rd floor 25‑bed Orthopedic/Surgical unit. The unit handles Joint, Spine, Urology, General Surgery, and Medical Overflow admissions.

Shift &

Schedule:

40 hours per week, primarily days with flexibility to meet department needs. Shift differentials may apply. Free parking on site.

Responsibilities

Clinical Nursing Practice – Promote an environment that values diversity, open communication, teamwork, and exceptional service. Facilitate interdisciplinary collaboration, coordinate care, and demonstrate clinical expertise in the specified patient population.

Education and Professional Development – Coordinate, design, and implement educational programs for staff, patients, and families. Promote continuing education and develop competency initiatives.

Human Resources Management – Support recruiting, retaining, and developing staff. Provide performance feedback and assist in hiring and promotion decisions.

Operational and Fiscal Management – Establish standards of excellence, manage staffing and skill mix, and use clinical and financial data to support budgeting and revenue‑enhancing strategies.

Research and Performance Improvement – Evaluate and guide research relevant to practice. Lead performance improvement initiatives focused on patient safety and quality of care.

Education Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited professional nursing program.

Licensure / Certification Requirements

Registered Nurse license in North Carolina.
Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider certification.
For magnet hospitals, professional certification relevant to the practice area and on the ANCC Magnet approved list is required within the probationary period.

Professional Experience Requirements

At least 18 months of professional nursing experience in a tertiary care setting, including didactic and clinical experience, preferably with charge and precepting experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Clinical nursing expertise in caring for patients with multiple and complex problems.
Leadership and interprofessional collaboration skills.
Ability to develop and deliver educational programs.
Analytical skills for performance improvement and fiscal management.
Strong communication and documentation skills.
