RN Clinical Nurse II (Per Diem) UNC Hillsborough Hospital Emergency Department

This role provides competent clinical nursing care in a 16‑bed emergency department, including patients with minor and critical injuries. Responsibilities require coordination of care using the nursing process and collaboration with an interdisciplinary team.

• Participate in identifying and meeting learning needs; attend education programs and use patient education materials.
• Identify expected patient outcomes, revise plans of care, and discuss care with the interdisciplinary team.
• Demonstrate competence in care of complex patients, perform bedside point‑of‑care testing, and prioritize care based on patient and family needs.
• Develop goals for professional growth, achieve objectives, and support intra/interdepartmental collaboration.
• Assess complex situations, synthesize data, and communicate priorities and discharge needs.
• Collaborate with patients and families to prepare or update care plans, address cultural and ethnic issues, and prioritize tasks.
• Maintain knowledge of current practice by reading relevant journals and sharing insights with staff.

• Graduation from a professional nursing school.

• Registered Nurse license in the state of North Carolina.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification.

• One (1) year of relevant and current experience.

• Knowledge of the nursing process, emergency department protocols, and patient assessment techniques.
• Ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, and interdisciplinary team members.
• Competence in using clinical software and performing bedside point‑of‑care tests.
• Ability to prioritize tasks, manage complex care issues, and support cost‑effective care.

Per Diem – minimum commitment of 24 hours per month, including at least one summer and one winter holiday shift. No benefits are provided; employment is at‑will.
