Overview
Donjon Marine, LLC, an established and expanding New Jersey-based Marine Salvage Company, is seeking a skilled General Mechanic to join our operations team. This is not an automotive mechanic position. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience working with heavy equipment, hydraulic systems, HPUs (Hydraulic Power Units), internal combustion engines, generators, and warehouse machinery. Knowledge of marine equipment, particularly outboard engines, is a strong plus.
This position requires flexibility and a willingness to travel for jobs, including emergency response work. Applicants must be comfortable working outside in all weather conditions, as well as on docks, barges, and vessels on the water.
Primary Responsibilities
- Diagnose and repair a broad range of mechanical, electric, and hydraulic equipment used in salvage operations, including but not limited to:
- Air and fire manifolds
- Air compressors
- Welding machines
- Internal combustion engines
- Diesel, hydraulic, and electric submersible pumps
- Hydraulic Power Units (HPUs) and generators
- Conduct routine preventative maintenance and inspections to ensure all equipment meets operational and safety standards
- Perform tasks safely and efficiently, including in emergency or time sensitive situations, with minimal reliance on manuals.
- Maintain detailed maintenance and repair records using a computerized maintenance management system.
- Follow instructions of the Salvage Master and Assistant Salvage Master while coordinating tasks cohesively with salvage team.
- Clearly and effectively communicate updates regarding equipment status, work scope, schedules, safety concerns, and potential impacts to operational activities.
- Proactively identify and requisition necessary spares, parts, tools, and supplies to minimize downtime and maintain equipment reliability.
Required Qualifications
- 3+ Years of experience as a mechanic in a marine, industrial, or heavy equipment environment.
- Strong problem solving and diagnostic skills; capable of working independently with minimal guidance.
- Familiarity with marine salvage and support equipment listed above.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities under pressure and adapt to changing operational demands
- Physically capable of lifting up to 50 lbs. and working outdoors in varying weather and marine conditions.
- Willingness and ability to travel for extended periods, both domestically and internationally, for scheduled and emergency projects.
- Valid driver's license, passport, and TWIC (or ability to obtain)
- Must pass pre-employment drug testing and background screening.

Compensation and Benefits
Base Salary Range: $30- $40 dollars /hr. (Actual compensation will depend on experience, education, and qualifications.)
