Position: ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT III - HAWAII ISLAND

Recruitment Number 25-0151. The immediate vacancy is located in Kona and is with the Department of Accounting & General Services. Salary: $4,240 to $5,367 per month (SR-16, Step C to I). Duties

Summary

An Administrative Assistant serves as a trusted personal assistant, working closely and confidentially with its manager. Responsibilities include a variety of clerical and minor administrative duties supporting the organization. The Administrative Assistant III serves as a secretary to the manager of a statewide program or programs and an organization of substantial complexity and size or scope, and performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualification Requirements

Legal authorization to work: State of Hawaii requires citizens, nationals, or permanent resident aliens, or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment.

General Clerical

Experience:

Six (6) months of work experience demonstrating knowledge of English grammar, spelling, arithmetic, ability to read and understand instructions, and speak/write simply and directly.

Specialized Clerical

Experience:

  • A. Two (2) years progressively responsible typing and/or substantive clerical work demonstrating knowledge and abilities under General Clerical Experience, plus knowledge of common office appliances and equipment, ability to perform secretarial tasks such as telephone reception, file management, travel arrangements, correspondence composition, information retrieval, routing, editing, maintaining logs, and using computers and software applications.
  • B. One (1) additional year progressively responsible typing or substantive clerical work demonstrating ability to perform secretarial duties including providing personal assistance to an administrator, overall awareness of organizational activities, and exercise of sound judgment.

Substitutions: Relevant substitutions as described in the Minimum Qualification Requirements will apply.

Driver's License: Some positions require possession of a valid driver's license at the time of appointment.

Special Requirements: Some positions require ability to lift and carry items of various weights with or without accommodation.

Skill: Certain positions require ability to type 40 words per minute and/or transcribe dictation at 80 words per minute. Applicants lacking these skills will be referred only to positions not requiring those rates.
