Position: Police Documents Clerk - SR-11

Job Title

There is one (1) immediate permanent full-time vacancy with the Hawai'i Police Department
- Technical Services
- Records and Identification Division in Hilo.

Job Description

Records, processes, and accounts for warrants, subpoenas and other legal instruments received from the courts and other agencies; compiles statistics and other information and prepares periodic reports; and performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

Training and

Experience:

A combination of education and experience substantially equivalent to:

  • Graduation from high school, and
  • Three (3) years of clerical experience, one (1) of which shall have involved the processing and maintenance of police records.

Substitution of education for required clerical experience:
An Associates degree or higher from an accredited college or university may be substituted for lack of the required clerical experience on a year for year basis (examples: 30 college credits can be substituted for one (1) year of the required clerical experience, an Associates degree can be substituted for two (2) years of the required clerical experience, and a baccalaureate degree or higher can be substituted for four (4) years of the required clerical experience).

All applicants who meet the minimum qualification requirements will be assigned a score of 70 points. An education and experience evaluation will be conducted based on the applicant's training, education and experience as presented in the application.

Knowledge of: office practices and procedures; various types of police records; filing methods and systems; procedures for the recording, processing, and accounting of warrants, subpoenas, and other legal instruments; applicable procedures of the courts and the prosecuting attorney's office; departmental policies and regulations; the uses and purposes of standard office equipment. Ability to: maintain various police records and files; properly account for warrants, subpoenas, and other legal documents;

understand and apply pertinent laws, rules, and procedures; operate a typewriter, personal computer, and other office equipment; follow oral and written instructions; deal tactfully and courteously with coworkers, personnel from other governmental agencies, and the public.
