Supervisory Wildland Firefighter (Engine Captain)

As a Supervisory Wildland Firefighter (Engine Captain) your duties will include but are not limited to the following:

Mentors and instructs lower graded crew members.

Applies an understanding of firefighter safety, fire behavior, topography, weather, fuels, and training in fire management.

Directs assigned suppression operations and recommend and implement tactical strategies.

Adjusts actions based on changing information and evolving situational awareness.

Assists in the development and implementation of training programs (mandatory, formal, and informal).

IMPORTANT, Special Consideration: The island of Hawai'i can be subject to high concentrations of volcanic fumes, especially sulfur dioxide gases and particulates. The fumes are known to be hazardous to an unborn fetus, and persons with heart and respiratory problems. Long-term effects on normal healthy persons are unknown.
