Overview

The P ZL CONSTRUCTION MANAGEMENT Department of the P OPERATIONS PLANNING & CONSTRUCTION MANAGEMENT Division at Hawaiian Electric Company has 1 Management vacancy available. Role:

Responsibilities
  • Plans, coordinates and manages construction of various T&D electrical projects. Provides work direction and oversees the work of external contractors and construction inspectors to safely and efficiently complete electrical projects. Acts as the Department's point of contact/representative for inquiries and complaints and ensures contractor compliance as appropriate.
  • Plans, acquires/arranges necessary Holdoffs, Limited Holdoffs and other electrical clearances for assigned projects.
  • Reviews construction contract packages, makes recommendations regarding constructability, resolves design/bid/field problems. Advises contractors on construction methods. Reviews and approves invoices for accuracy. Continuously reviews bidding procedures to maximize costs and efficiencies; identifies opportunities for cost savings and improvements.
  • Maintains project daily records; prepares incident and other project reports. Attends contracting and project meetings.
  • Plans, schedules and conducts meetings (safety, training, informational) to foster communication across workforce; manages performance of employees, trains and develops personnel toward an effective and skilled workforce. Interacts with employees and internal/external suppliers and customers to support company objectives.
  • Participates in Company emergency response activities as assigned.
Qualifications Knowledge Requirements
  • Extensive knowledge of T&D electrical construction methods and ability to apply this knowledge to manage construction sites.
  • Thorough knowledge of hold-off procedures and the ability to qualify to accept/return holdoffs and electrical work clearances.
  • Working knowledge of Hawaii construction laws, contracting, scheduling, estimating and cost tracking.
  • Thorough knowledge of OSHA and HECO safety and construction standards/specifications.
  • Working knowledge of personal computers and software (spreadsheets, word processing, etc.).
  • Working knowledge of LEAN principles and Safe Start principles for safety/workplace excellence.
Skills Requirements
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work with a variety of individuals, including handling sensitive or difficult issues.
  • Ability to provide work direction to contractors; strong interpersonal and leadership skills.
  • Ability to handle challenging situations with tact, courtesy and discretion.
  • Flexibility in a demanding field environment; problem-solving as issues arise.
  • Effective process management to organize resources and improve workflows.
  • Strong organizational and planning skills to multitask.
  • Must have or be able to qualify for a State of Hawaii driver's license.
Experience Requirements
  • Extensive (7+ years) experience in the construction of overhead, underground, and/or substation electrical facilities.
  • Certification as a journeyman (T&D) is desirable.
  • 1–2 years of related work experience in a team lead capacity or equivalent preferred.
