Performs moderately difficult mapping work in preparing and maintaining plans, maps, tracings, and drawings; makes mathematical computations; assists in the review and verification of simple land documents; assists in maintaining files and databases; assists in street address assignments; and performs other related duties as assigned.
Responsibilities- Prepares tracings and drawings manually or with CAD (computer aided drafting) /GIS (geographic information system) systems following relatively well-defined procedures.
- Makes changes to maps and records based on verbal or written instructions or other data.
- Assists in preparing and revising detailed working drawings and digitized maps.
- Retraces worn tax maps.
- Assists in the conduct of title searches; prepares reports of changes.
- Plots center lines, topography, property and right-of-way boundaries, etc.; makes related computations of distances, angles, curves, areas, etc.
- Reduces or enlarges maps and plans; uses large format copier/scanner/plotter for scanning and/or printing copies of maps, plans, documents, etc.
- Files maps, records, and plans; assists in maintaining records, files, and databases.
- Assists in the review and verification of the accuracy of land boundaries, data, areas, ownership of property, etc.; may plot such data onto digital and/or record maps and plans.
- May operate the planimeter in taking areas from a map.
- Assists in maintaining drafting equipment.
- May prepare final drawings and tracings from survey data and working drawings under close supervision; may make field investigations to obtain supplementary data.
- Assists in street address assignments; responds to inquiries relating to addresses.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Graduation from high school with courses in mathematics and/or mechanical drawing.
- Two (2) years of drafting, mapping, CAD/GIS, or land title abstracting experience.
All applicants who meet the minimum qualification requirements will be assigned a score of 70 points. An education and experience evaluation will be conducted based on the applicant's training, education and experience as presented in the application.
NoteIn-person interviews and/or further testing in Hawai‘i County may be required at the discretion of the hiring department/agency. If required, applicants must be available to participate in person and at their own expense at that phase of the selection process.
Knowledge of- Mathematics, including geometry and plane trigonometry particularly as applied to the computation of distances, angles, and areas.
- Nomenclature and conventional symbols of drafting.
- Drafting practices, techniques, instruments and equipment.
- Concepts and principles of CAD/GIS.
- Database, word processing, and spreadsheet programs.
- Legal documents relating to land titles and transactions.
- Sources of information and material relating to land title search.
- Office practices and procedures.
- Prepare maps, plans, drawings, and tracings to required scale neatly and accurately from rough sketches, preliminary designs, or written description.
- Make mathematical computations using trigonometric and circular curve calculations.
- Do freehand lettering and sketching.
- Analyze legal documents relating to land titles and transactions.
- Read and interpret maps relating to land titles.
- Learn the Hawaiian land systems, and words and phrases in the Hawaiian language commonly used on land transactions.
- Learn the various operations, characteristics, and capabilities of CAD/GIS software.
- Learn new software programs.
- Follow oral and written instructions.
- Work cooperatively and harmoniously with others.
- Deal tactfully and effectively with the public.
