SalaryIV Level: $5,527 to $6,728 per month (SR-22, Step D to Step I). V Level: $6,221 to $7,568 per month (SR-24, Step D to Step I).
Duties SummaryThe Landscape Architect IV independently prepares professional landscaping plans, specifications, estimates and designs on conventional landscape architectural assignments for the development, beautification and rehabilitation of ground areas surrounding public buildings, parks and other recreational areas, and for erosion control purposes; may direct activities of a plant nursery; and performs other related duties as assigned.
The Landscape Architect V prepares professional landscaping plans and designs for the development, beautification and rehabilitation of ground areas primarily around public buildings, parks or highways which deal with the full range of work with primary emphasis on the advanced aspects of landscape architecture such as originality of design, multiple-use concepts, and erosion control; participates in and provides technical consultation for the development of landscape plans that are contracted out;
and performs other related duties as assigned.
Type 1. The Landscape Architect who is responsible for developing master landscape development plans for its area(s) of concern such as public buildings, State parks, etc., which deal with advanced aspects of landscape architecture such as those that involve multiple-use concepts.
Type 2. The Landscape Architect responsible for defining goals, and developing, clarifying, evaluating and monitoring master landscape plans on a statewide basis for its area(s) of concern. Work is characterized by participating in and providing technical consultation for the development of landscape plans that are contracted out.
Both types of positions above also develop statewide standards, specifications, and work plans/timetables for landscape projects and reviews all design plans for capital improvement and maintenance projects affecting facilities under the jurisdiction of these positions.

Legal Authorization To WorkThe State of Hawaii requires all persons seeking employment with the government of the State shall be citizens, nationals, or permanent resident aliens of the United States, or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment in the United States.
Professional LicenseFor the Landscape Architect V, applicants must possess a valid active license as a professional LANDSCAPE ARCHITECT (LA) in the State of Hawaii at the time of application.

Basic Education/ExperienceBachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university in landscape architecture or a closely related field.
Excess work experience as described under the Specialized Experience below, or any other responsible administrative, professional or analytical work experience that provided knowledge, skills and abilities comparable to those acquired in four years of successful study while completing a college or university curriculum leading to a baccalaureate degree in the majors described above may be substituted on a year-for-year basis. To be acceptable, the experience must have been of such scope, level and quality as to assure the possession of comparable knowledge, skills and abilities.
