Overview
The Department of Plant and Environmental Protection Sciences (PEPS) in the College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resilience (CTAHR) at the University of Hawaii at Manoa (UHM) invites applications for an 11-month, tenure-track faculty position in Weed Science to support equitable, sustainable, and resilient food and agriculture systems, natural resources, and rural communities. This position is critical to meet CTAHR’s strategic priorities of vibrant tropical and Pacific Island agriculture, food security, ecosystem health, and resilient and thriving communities.
This position supports the food and agricultural products self-sufficiency goals of the state.
The successful candidate will develop a balanced research and extension program in terrestrial weed management in a tropical environment. This can include food crops or ornamental production systems, pasture ranchlands, natural areas, and urban environments in Hawai’i. The incumbent is expected to use the understanding of weed ecology to facilitate the development of regionally based integrated weed management strategies, emphasizing biological, physical, and/or chemical approaches.
Other research and extension efforts would be informed by stakeholder needs.
Minimum Qualifications Doctorate or equivalent terminal degree from a college or university of recognized standing in Weed Science, or related fields, with experience in weed management. All degree requirements must be completed at the time of hire.Demonstrated abilityto teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels.Demonstrated experience in research in Weed Science at the graduate or postdoctoral level.Demonstrated skills in experimental design, conducting appropriate statistical analysis.Record of research productivity as evidenced by publications in peer-reviewed journals.Proven ability to work effectively with farmers, natural resource managers, homeowners, and stakeholder groups such as community organizations, governmental agencies, and commodity groups.Dedication to the success of students and the land-grant mission of serving stakeholders and the community.Professionalism in meetings and conferring with others.Desirable Qualifications
Demonstrated record of scholarly publications in peer-reviewed journals in the field of invasion plant biology, weed ecology, weed science, or weed management.Demonstrated ability to obtain and manage extramural funding.Postdoctoral research experience in the field of invasion plant biology, weed ecology, weed science, or weed management.Experience in applying conventionalormodern weed management techniques.Knowledge of weed ecology, and weed biological control.Demonstrated experience in teaching University-level in-person or web-based courses with teaching evaluations.#J-18808-Ljbffr
