Overview

Aloha mai! Mahalo for your interest in Kamehameha Schools. If you are looking for an opportunity to utilize your skills and talents and grow in your profession, while serving and strengthening our Native Hawaiian community, we would love to have you join our ʻohana! Kamehameha Schools, Hawai‘i Campus seeks a dynamic, energetic Kumu 'Olelo Hawai'i to join our K–5 program; an educator who brings both a strong command of 'olelo and a vibrant passion for 'ike Hawai'i into daily practice.

This kumu will inspire haumana through engaging instruction that weaves together language, mele Hawaiʻi, oli, and hula, while cultivating a deep sense of identity and belonging.

Beyond the classroom, this role includes guiding and managing a student ensemble that shares their learning through performances at key school gatherings such as morning piko, chapel, and assemblies. This kumu will also steward hoʻokipa for visiting guests; organizing and preparing haumāna, and collaborating with grade‑level kumu to thoughtfully communicate and adjust schedules in support of these special moments.

Equally important, this kumu will serve as an active member of grade‑level kauhale; collaborating deeply with colleagues to advance learner achievement in ELA and math, and contributing to the planning, design, and implementation of interdisciplinary 'Oiwi STEAM learning experiences.

We are looking for someone who not only teaches ʻōlelo, but truly ignites a lifelong love for the language and empowers students to embrace who they are as poʻe Hawaiʻi. This is a 2‑year Defined Term position that has the potential of converting into a FT Regular role. It will start at the beginning of our 26‑27 SY, on 7/30/2026.
