UH Hilo, College of Arts & Sciences, Social Sciences Division, position number 82009, tenure-track, full time, general funds, 9-month appointment to begin approximately August 2026 or January 2027, pending position clearance and availability of funding.
The Department of Administration of Justice at University of Hawaii at Hilo invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor of Administration of Justice. While the area of specialization is open, we are particularly interested in candidates with expertise in the area of law enforcement. This is an in-residence position.
The Department of Administration of Justice offers a BA in Administration of Justice (AJ) that includes a fully online Law Enforcement Cohort Track designed for law enforcement officers, and the department also offers a Criminal Justice (CJ) certificate.
Duties- Teach undergraduate courses, including Intro to Administration of Justice, Crime and Society, Criminal Justice, Criminal Law and Procedure, Policing and Punishment, Research Methodology, and other upper division AJ courses as needed.
- Serve on university committees and engage in periodic assessment activities.
- Engage in scholarly activities.
- Provide academic advising to students.
- Participate in department, university, and community service.
- A Ph.D. in Criminology or Criminal Justice or closely related social science discipline from an accredited university is required at the time of appointment.
- Demonstrated expertise in the field of criminal justice.
- Strong evidence of research productivity in the field of criminal justice, or clear potential for developing a strong program of research in the field of criminal justice.
- Demonstrated excellence in university-level face-to-face and online instruction.
- Documented excellence in teaching courses listed under Duties.
- Documented excellence in online instruction in various formats, including synchronous, asynchronous, and Hybrid-Flexible models.
- Experience teaching in a multi-cultural setting.
- Applied experience in law enforcement.
- Research focus in the area of law enforcement.
Commensurate with training and experience.
