Position: Hilo-Waiakea Complex: (12-Month) District Office Teacher, 603117 (2026-02218)

Position

Special Education Teacher, Subject Area 14 K-12, District Office Teacher (BLIND / VISUALLY IMPAIRED). 12‑month position.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Completion of a state‑approved Special Education teacher preparation program.
  • Proven experience teaching students with disabilities.
  • Proficiency in SMILE data collection systems.
  • A Bachelor’s Degree (minimum).
  • A valid Hawaii teaching license or Emergency Hire Permit.
Professional Dispositions
  • Self‑direction – works effectively and efficiently with minimal supervision.
  • Communication – effective listener and communicator, both verbal and written, with administrators, staff, and parents.
  • Presentation – confident presentation of material to various audiences, including colleagues and leadership.
  • Organization – highly organized with strong time‑management skills to handle caseloads and deadlines.
  • Critical Thinking – proactive problem‑solver in dynamic educational settings.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with evaluation/eligibility processes and Multi‑Tiered System of Supports (MTSS).
  • Background in literacy, math, behavior, and/or writing coaching and mentoring.
  • Experience designing and delivering professional development to staff.
  • Previous leadership experience (e.g., department head or team lead).
Licensing Requirements

Applicants who are not already licensed must obtain a valid Hawaii teaching license within three years and must demonstrate ongoing pursuit of licensing requirements in accordance with the Hawaii Teacher Standards Board.
