About the Position
High School Social Studies Teacher – Kamehameha Schools Kea'au Campus, Hawaii. Full‑time, regular position.
This role focuses on delivering World‑Class, Hawaiian Culture‑Based education that supports the EOla! learner outcomes. The teacher will apply student‑centered, interdisciplinary practices, integrate technology, and foster growth, global competence, and well‑being for all students.
- Demonstrate academic competence in social studies and related subject areas.
- Develop and implement integrated, interdisciplinary curriculum and instructional strategies that are age appropriate.
- Maintain a growth mindset toward teaching practice and professional development.
- Exhibit self‑efficacy, advocating for students and holding oneself accountable for learner outcomes.
- Facilitate problem‑solving and critical‑thinking activities with creative, data‑driven approaches.
- Serve as an innovative role model with a passion for continuous learning and mastery of pedagogy.
- Collaborate effectively with colleagues, families, and external partners to enhance student performance.
- Promote and demonstrate global competence, extending student learning to families and communities.
- Invest deeply in student well‑being, health, safety, and emotional and social development.
- Design and facilitate differentiated and personalized learning goals and activities aligned to instruction.
- Align lessons to the Learners’ Strong Foundation, emphasizing world and Hawaiian history, genealogy, land stewardship, and character.
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
- Minimum of 5 years of high‑school teaching experience in social studies or related discipline.
- Demonstrated knowledge of differentiated instruction, project‑based learning, and personalized learning.
- Experience with technology integration in the classroom.
- Strong communication skills and ability to build positive relationships with students and families.
- Commitment to service‑learning and culturally responsive pedagogy.
- Master’s or Doctoral degree in education or social studies.
- Teaching credentials appropriate for high‑school instruction.
- Knowledge of and sensitivity to social justice, sustainability, Hawaiian language, history, culture, and Christian values.
- Ability to coach or support athletic, performing‑arts, academic clubs, or fine‑arts activities.
The position requires frequent movement within the classroom, occasional lifting of items up to 20pounds, and the ability to stand, walk, and work with technology for extended periods. Work may involve travel, evening, and weekend hours to meet teaching and professional learning commitments.
Compensation & BenefitsWork Year: 9.75 months. Salary Range: $61,111.00–$ per year, based on degree level and experience. Comprehensive benefits include health, dental, vision, retirement, and wellness programs.
