Position: (CASUAL) Kukulu Returning and Transfer Student Coordinator

Description

Applicants seeking short-term or part-time work with the University of Hawai'i may apply for Casual Hire positions, which include administrative, professional, and technical (APT) or instructional-type positions. Because of the temporary nature of these appointments, Casual Hire employees are not eligible for most benefits as provided to regular Board of Regents (BOR) and Civil Service employees (i.e. paid holidays/leave). Casual Hire appointments may last for up to 89 days for full-time employees, and up to 1 calendar year for part-time employees.

(CASUAL) Kukulu Returning and Transfer Student Coordinator – University of Hawai'i at Hilo, Kipuka Native Hawaiian Student Center, full-time 40 hours/week, salary $33.00/hour, temporary, expected start July 2026. Eligibility: 1 year of progressively responsible professional experience with responsibilities for student success programming or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities
  • Provide direct academic, career, and financial aid advising for Native Hawaiian returning and transfer students in consultation with relevant units in the UH Hilo Division of Student Affairs.
  • Coordinate and facilitate the Kukulu Transfer Student cohort program.
  • Outreach and collaboration with academic and support programs at UH Hilo and UH System Communities Colleges in support of transfer students.
  • Conduct, coordinate, and evaluate student success and development workshops and activities.
  • Oversee and maintain data collection for student participants.
  • Hire, train, supervise, and evaluate peer mentors to assist implementation of programs and activities.
  • Work in multiple work settings and maintain a variable work schedule as required.
  • Other duties as assigned (project‑based support).
Minimum Qualifications
  • Possession of a baccalaureate degree in any field from an accredited university and 1 year of progressively responsible professional experience with responsibilities for student success programming in higher education; or any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience that provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of UH Hilo programs and services.
  • Previous experience working in a higher education institution.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer and apply word processing software.
