Mechanical Engineer
Performs difficult professional engineering work in the design, installation, operation, and maintenance of mechanical equipment and systems, and/or in the review and analysis of plans and specifications for mechanical engineering features and compliance with code requirements; and performs other related duties as required.
Responsibilities- Makes office and field studies of proposed projects and recommends the design, type, selection, and location of equipment to be installed.
- Conducts preliminary and final acceptance tests of pumping units.
- Conducts periodic tests to determine operational efficiency of existing pumping units and recommends corrective action as required.
- Checks plans and specifications of mechanical equipment and appurtenances.
- Supervises and compiles pumping and other data.
- Analyzes indicator cards of steam engines and makes adjustments as required.
- Analyzes station reports and operating schedules.
- Requisition s supplies and equipment.
- Reviews plans and specifications pertaining to mechanical engineering features for compliance with plumbing, mechanical, and other pertinent code requirements.
- Analyzes design of piping, air conditioning, refrigerating, heating, and other related systems.
- Checks and verifies correctness of calculations, determinations, and assumptions as to requirements, load limits, safety allowances, etc.
- Meets and confers with architects and engineers on matters concerning technical interpretation of codes.
- Approves or rejects plumbing permits upon review of designs, plans, and specifications.
- Serves as consultant to department personnel engaged in the inspection of plumbing construction work.
- Prepares technical reports and correspondence.
A combination of education and experience substantially equivalent to:
- Graduation from an accredited college or university with major work (baccalaureate degree) in mechanical engineering.
- Three (3) years of professional mechanical engineering experience.
- Possession of a certificate of registration as a professional mechanical engineer in the State of Hawaiʻi at time of filing.
- Possession of a valid State of Hawaiʻi driver's license (Class
3) or any other valid comparable driver's license at time of filing.
Foreign transcripts must be accompanied by an official credential evaluation report to determine U.S. equivalency.
ExaminationAll applicants who meet the minimum qualification requirements will be assigned a score of 70 points. An education and experience evaluation will be conducted based on the applicant’s training, education, and experience as presented in the application.
