Electric Quality Control Expert - Hilo, Kona, or Waimea

Conduct field assessments of Hawaiian Electric’s facilities and internal resources and lead teams to ensure we have the right tools, equipment, and work standards to complete work in a safe and efficient manner. Inspect and verify the quality of construction work to ensure compliance with standards. Regularly travel to various work sites within the state.

• Travel to various work locations within the state to conduct field assessments, ensuring the safety of personnel, providing tools and equipment, training personnel in their safe use, and identifying new tools and equipment.
• Partner with the Standards team to ensure that we use the safest and most efficient means to construct T&D facilities.
• Inspect and verify the quality of construction work performed by Hawaiian Electric crews, including emergency and planned Electric Corrective (EC) tickets, ensuring all work complies with HECO Construction Standards.
• Audit completed supervisor work packages, ensuring all jobs are properly closed out with supporting documentation accounted for.
• Participate in company emergency response activities as assigned, including any activities required to prepare for such responses.

• High School or GED Diploma;
  Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline, or a combination of experience and education preferred.
• Advanced knowledge of electric utility regulatory requirements to complete thorough reviews and analyses of T&D construction work, preparing comprehensive reports with recommendations for leadership.
• Expert knowledge of standard tools used in construction work, able to identify tools, standards, and equipment needed to make the work environment safe and efficient.
• Knowledge of industry standards, company specifications, and federal, state, and local requirements to perform inspections evaluating the quality of work by construction crews.
• Graduate of an approved USDOL Electrical Lineman apprenticeship or equivalent training; documentation of apprenticeship completion required.
• Preferred American Society for Quality (ASQ) Quality Improvement Specialist or Certified Quality Auditor certifications.
• Preferred Certified Safety Professional (CSP).
• Preferred Qualified Electrical Worker (QEW) certification.

• Effective communicator with advanced skills to tailor content for target audiences, convey findings and recommendations, and develop new methods for communicating issues and best practices.
• Demonstrated ability to coach personnel and facilitate on-the-job training; act as a technical resource for T&D supervisors and crew foremen.
• Must have or be able to obtain a State of Hawaii Class 3 driver’s license; meet driving standards for frequent driving positions.
• Ability to facilitate post-verification review meetings, summarizing and presenting complex findings to leadership.
• Ability to identify and distinguish the difference between colors, including shades, hues, and tints.
• Capability to learn computer and technology skills (iPad, Excel, Power Point, Word, Teams, SAP, email, etc.).

• Extensive experience (8 or more years) in related business experience in Electrical Utilities Transmission and Distribution or closely related fields.
• Minimum 5 years of Journeyman Lineman level work experience, ideally leading crews.
• Several years (3–5) of experience conducting root cause investigations (ideal).
