Responsibilities
- Provide personal financial counseling services to military service members and their families at assigned military installations.
- Conduct education and counseling addressing financial services, including one‑on‑one counseling, consultations with commanders or staff, briefings, presentations, and referrals to external resources.
- Work with installation and branch Points of Contact (POC) to ensure program scope and installation needs are met.
- Provide personal financial counseling and management services directly to service members and families.
- Assist service members in establishing a spending plan for extended absences.
- Develop and disseminate informational financial materials.
- Coordinate, publicize, and provide a variety of Personal Financial Management classes/workshops spanning the military lifecycle (e.g., arrival at first duty station, pre‑ and post‑deployment, and other career events outlined in DoDI 1322.34).
- Respond to requests for age‑appropriate classes or seminars.
- Utilize virtual counseling or other electronic communication modes (web‑based, secure online chat, video‑based communications, and secured video teleconference) as authorized by the OSD FINRED Program office.
- Manage duty‑to‑warn situations in accordance with DoD protocol.
- Communicate with leadership and participate in regular individual and group supervision, sharing information regarding trends and issues on assigned installations.
- Participate in regular in‑services/training, quality improvement committees or other contract activities as assigned.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor's degree required (Associate degree plus 4 years of experience or high school diploma plus 6 years of experience may also be considered).
- 3+ years of financial counseling experience.
- Must be a U.S. citizen and speak fluent English; bilingual in English and Spanish may be required by contract.
- Ability to obtain a favorably adjudicated Tier 2 investigation.
- Must pass the Congressionally Mandated Disclosures for Organizational Conflicts of Interest (OCI) process.
- Must hold one of the following certifications: AFC (Accredited Financial Counselor), CFP (Certified Financial Planner), or ChFC (Chartered Financial Consultant).
- Salary Range: $58,440 – $93,500 (based on location, experience, education, and other factors).
