Professional Trainee I (Grant/Fiscal Specialist)
There is one immediate permanent full-time vacancy with the Department of Finance - Budget Division in Hilo. This Professional Trainee I (Grant/Fiscal Specialist) SR-16 position is a career ladder position. The next level in the series is Professional Trainee II (Grant/Fiscal Specialist), SR-18, $4,725/month. Persons hired into career ladder positions must meet minimum qualifications for the next level in the career ladder series, perform work at the higher level, and meet performance requirements to move to the next level in the career ladder series.
The eligible list may be used for other permanent and temporary vacancies as they arise during the life of the list. Temporary appointment may lead to conversion to permanent appointment.
- Attends training and receives orientation in the basic functions fundamental to the professional specialty area.
- Expands on current knowledge to develop technical requirements essential to the completion of assignments.
- Learns the basic principles, concepts, work processes and reference materials fundamental to the professional work to be performed.
- Receives orientation on the goals, objectives, philosophy, policies, procedures, rules, and regulations pertinent to the program.
- Learns to apply work processes and techniques by performing simple, selected tasks and assignments in the professional specialty area.
- Accompanies higher level specialists on field trips as an observer.
- Analyzes problems, conducts fact finding, applies appropriate guides and standards, draws sound conclusions, and prepares written reports of findings and recommendations.
- Participates in the planning of programs and projects.
- May operate a vehicle to perform work-related duties.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Training and
Experience:
A combination of education and experience substantially equivalent to:
- Graduation from an accredited college or university with a baccalaureate degree (scan and attach a copy of your official college transcript to your application).

Examination:
All applicants who meet the minimum qualification requirements will be assigned a score of 70 points. An education and experience evaluation will be conducted based on the applicant's training, education and experience as presented in the application. Please read the minimum qualification requirements carefully. Be certain to list all pertinent training and experience, as this may be important in determining your examination score.
