Position: MOTOR CARRIER SAFETY OFFICER I - HIGHWAYS (HAWAII ISLAND)

Overview

Motor Carrier Safety Officer I – entry‑level worker responsible for enforcing laws related to commercial vehicles, including regulations on vehicle registration, safety, and weight limits. Duties include conducting investigations, inspections, and compliance surveys, and performing other related duties as assigned.

Responsibilities
  • Enforce laws and regulations related to commercial vehicles.
  • Conduct inspections, investigations, and compliance surveys.
  • Prepare clear, concise reports.
  • Perform additional related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualification Requirements Legal Authorization to Work

Citizens, nationals, or permanent resident aliens of the United States, or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment in the United States.

General Experience

One (1) year of work experience demonstrating knowledge of arithmetic (multiplication and division), ability to read, understand, and explain rules and regulations, conduct inspections or investigations for noncompliance, follow verbal and written instructions, and prepare clear, concise reports.

Lifting Requirement

Ability to lift and carry objects up to 40 pounds unassisted and up to 50 pounds assisted by another person or equipment.

Driver's License

Valid driver’s license at the time of appointment.

State's Measure master License

Valid State's Measure master License or ability to obtain within 6‑month probationary period.

Education Substitution

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four‑year college or university may substitute for the required general experience.
