Job Title
Assists in the conduct of economic or community development projects and initiatives; conducts fact finding and analyses; prepares reports of findings and conclusions and economic development recommendations; and performs other related duties as required. There is one (1) immediate temporary full-time vacancy not-to-exceed 06/30/2027 with the Department of Research and Development in Hilo. The eligible list may be used for other permanent and temporary vacancies as they arise during the life of the list.
Temporary appointment may lead to conversion to permanent appointment.
- Selects reference sources and determines proper approaches and methods to obtain necessary data.
- Gathers and compiles data needed for economic development and industrial expansion program activities.
- Conducts research and gathers information on community and economic development programs; reviews for appropriateness for Hawai'i County.
- Prepares reports of findings and recommendations.
- Assists prospective community groups by assembling and supplying them with data on financial aid, natural resources, regulations, and laws.
- Collects and maintains data on pricing, distribution, advertising, shipping, and storage of various commodities and services.
- Conducts special studies to enhance economic development within the County of Hawai'i.
- Assists with phases in the development of strategic marketing plans, product promotional programs, etc.
- Participates in program evaluations and modifications.
- Assists with grant identification and writing.
- Prepares reports and correspondence; assists in reviewing bills and resolutions, drafting comments or testimony, and drafting legislative proposals.
- May supervise lower level staff.
- Operates a vehicle to travel to various districts around the island to meet with groups of interested parties, private businesses, community organizations, and other governmental agencies to explain and promote the services of the various economic development initiatives.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Training and
Experience:
A combination of education and experience substantially equivalent to:
- Graduation from an accredited college or university with a baccalaureate degree (scan and attach a copy of your official college transcript to your application), and
- Two (2) years of work experience involving the compilation, examination, analyses, and interpretation of statistical and other data, and
- Possession of a valid State of Hawai'i driver's license (Class
3) or any other valid comparable driver's license at time of filing. (You will be required to submit your valid driver's license at time of hire.)

Foreign transcripts must be accompanied by an official credential evaluation report to determine U.S. equivalency. (Scan and attach a copy of your official credential evaluation report to your application.) Examination:

An education and experience evaluation will be conducted based on the applicant's training, education and experience as presented in the application.
