Duties Summary
Coordinates and supports the operational aspects of Hawai‘i Police Department’s impaired, unsafe driving, and safety-related activities and programs to reduce traffic accidents, injuries, and deaths. Develops educational and informational materials, trains and supervises school crossing guards, and performs related duties.
One immediate permanent full‑time position is available with the Traffic Services Division in Hilo.
Responsibilities- Collaborate with community and government agencies to coordinate strategic plans that reduce motor vehicle related deaths and injuries caused by impaired and unsafe driving.
- Plan, assign, and supervise the work of subordinate staff; provide training as necessary; conduct job performance evaluations.
- Maintain regular contact with community and private agencies to encourage support and participation in prevention campaigns and impaired driving program activities.
- Gather data and statistics concerning traffic crashes and incidents; prepare reports for internal review, public meetings, or grant applications.
- Maintain data related to impaired driving, traffic violations, and traffic accidents; analyze data to identify traffic safety concerns; prepare recommendation reports.
- Develop and prepare training materials for presentations; organize and conduct training sessions or informational meetings for government and community organizations.
- Evaluate the traffic violation notification system; review traffic violation complaints and prepare follow‑up correspondence to vehicle owners.
- Prepare administrative and statistical reports; maintain files and records.
- Operate a vehicle to perform work‑related duties.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university.
- Two (2) years of experience in conducting training, educational workshops, or facilitating community group activities.
- Demonstrated supervisory aptitude.
- Good driving record: no DUI convictions, license revocations, or suspensions for the preceding three (3) years and no moving violations for the preceding one (1) year. Must provide a current traffic abstract at interview.
- Valid State of Hawai‘i driver's license (Class
3) or comparable license at time of filing. Must provide a copy at hire.
Foreign transcripts must be accompanied by an official credential evaluation report to determine U.S. equivalency.
