Position: PLANNER IV - OAHU

Salary: $5,953 to $6,918 per month (SR-22, Step D to I). Salary includes Shortage Category Differential.

Duties Summary

Positions in the Planner series provide information and plans for the orderly and coordinated physical, environmental, social, and/or economic development of Hawaii and/or the services of the State government. They are involved with developing information and rationale for decisions affecting growth and services to the people of the state over a significant period of time.

The Planner IV conducts planning projects; participates in promoting effective relationships with other agencies and groups; and performs other related duties as assigned. Duties include fact‑finding and analysis, reviewing legislation and administrative references as necessary, correlating findings and developing plans for particular public activities and/or facilities throughout an assigned geographic area, region, activity or concern.

Qualifications

Legal Authorization to Work: Citizens, nationals, or permanent resident aliens of the United States, or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment in the United States.

Basic

Education:

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four‑year college or university.

Specialized

Experience:

Two and one‑half (2‑½) years of progressively responsible professional planning experience that includes the collection and evaluation of a variety of physical, social, economic and environmental data, determination of public opinion and community objectives, and development of conditions to identify problems and opportunities within the area(s) of concern.

Experience must also demonstrate actual involvement and responsibility for:

  • The integration of information considering relationships among resources, facilities, services, needs and values to develop policy options, alternatives, programs and priorities.
  • Advising and assisting agencies and administrators on planning concepts and methods, providing technical information and analyses for plan formation.
  • Formulation and presentation of plans and policy recommendations, including alternatives and consequences, to decision makers and at public hearings.

Driver's License: A valid driver's license is required for some positions at the time of appointment.
