Recruitment Number: OHHI-25166. Immediate vacancy in the Department of Health. This recruitment is part of the Operation Hire Hawaii (OH-HI) project, an expedited hiring initiative to bring qualified applicants into Hawai’i.

Salary: $5,369 to $6,535 per month (SR-22, Step D to I). Temporary positions may lead to civil service membership after a probation of six months.

Positions in the Microbiologist series supervise and/or perform professional scientific work in the detection, isolation, identification, cultivation, use and control of microorganisms. The Microbiologist IV is a senior, fully independent worker who conducts special investigations or research projects in one or more specialized fields of microbiology, supervises or participates in activities in the field, and performs related duties as assigned.

• Legal Authorization to Work
  :
  Required to be a citizen, national or permanent resident alien of the United States, or otherwise eligible under federal law.
• Basic Education
  :
  Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in microbiology, biology, molecular biology, medical technology or a closely related science major.
• Required Coursework
  :
• Chemistry (inorganic, qualitative, organic or similar).
• At least two subject areas related to the study of microorganisms such as bacteriology, immunology, serology, mycology, parasitology, molecular biology or virology.
• Food, water, dairy, soil, industrial, public health, agriculture or applied bacteriology or applied microbiology.
• Genetics, physiology, metabolism, animal or plant physiology or pathology, cell biology, biochemistry, biophysical chemistry.
• Specialized Experience
  :
  Two (2) years of professional experience in detection, isolation, identification, cultivation or control of microorganisms, including at least one year comparable to the next lower level in State service.
• Supervisory Aptitude
  :
  Demonstrated aptitude for supervisory duties through leadership roles, supervisory assignments or relevant training.
• Licensure Requirement
  :
  Current Clinical Laboratory Specialist (CLS) or Medical Technologist (MT) License issued by the State of Hawaii Department of Health.
