Join our healthcare team in Hilo as a Pharmacy Technician, where you will play a vital role in supporting pharmacists and ensuring safe, accurate, and timely medication services for patients. This position offers the opportunity to work in a fast‑paced hospital environment while contributing directly to high‑quality patient care. Candidates may be hired at the entry or full performance level depending on experience and qualifications.
Key Responsibilities- Assist pharmacists in preparing and filling medication orders, including oral, topical, and intravenous medications.
- Prepare sterile compounded products (e.g., IV solutions, syringes, TPNs) using proper aseptic techniques and in compliance with regulations.
- Maintain pharmacy inventory, including stocking shelves, automated dispensing machines, and removing expired medications.
- Deliver medications to patient care areas and ensure timely distribution of drug orders.
- Support daily pharmacy operations, including maintaining crash carts, emergency medication boxes, and medication pre‑packaging.
- Adhere to all safety, infection control, and confidentiality policies while maintaining a clean and organized work environment.
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Entry Level: One (1) year of experience in a pharmacy setting assisting a pharmacist, or completion of an accredited pharmacy technician program may substitute for experience.
- Full Performance Level: In addition to entry‑level qualifications, one (1) year of hospital pharmacy experience involving medication order processing, compounding, and inventory management.
- Current registration as a Pharmacy Technician with the State of Hawaii Board of Pharmacy (required).
- Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) preferred; may be required within six (6) months of hire.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers preferred; may be required within six (6) months of hire.
- Knowledge of pharmaceutical terminology, dosage forms, and medication preparation procedures.
- Ability to perform accurate calculations and maintain detailed records.
- Familiarity with sterile compounding techniques (required at full performance level).
- Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Ability to multitask, stay organized, and work efficiently under pressure.
