As a Respiratory Therapist for Hilo Benioff Medical Center, you will play a critical role in delivering advanced respiratory care to a diverse patient population, including critically ill, pediatric, and neonatal patients. This position offers the opportunity to work independently while collaborating closely with physicians and interdisciplinary teams in a dynamic hospital setting. This role requires strong clinical judgment, the ability to work independently, and a commitment to delivering high-quality, patient-centered care in a collaborative healthcare environment.

• Independently assess, treat, and manage patients with respiratory disorders, including administering therapies and interpreting diagnostic results
• Initiate, monitor, and manage life support systems such as mechanical ventilation, including ventilator adjustments and airway management
• Respond to emergencies as part of the resuscitation team, including performing CPR, intubation support, and patient stabilization
• Conduct pulmonary function testing, pulse oximetry monitoring, and assist with sleep studies and other specialized diagnostics
• Educate patients and families on respiratory conditions, treatments, and home care techniques
• Ensure compliance with infection control, safety standards, and regulatory requirements while maintaining accurate documentation

Education & Experience

• Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Respiratory Therapy from a CoARC or CAAHEP‑accredited program; or equivalent combination of education and experience, OR
  • Associate degree in Respiratory Therapy from a CoARC or CAAHEP‑accredited program and 2 years of additional professional experience may be accepted with additional experience or required credentials, OR
  • Associate degree in Respiratory Therapy from a CoARC or CAAHEP‑accredited program and Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) certification may substitute for the bachelor's degree requirement
• Respiratory therapy experience under medical supervision:
  • Respiratory Therapist I: 0 years required
  • Respiratory Therapist II: ½ year required
  • Respiratory Therapist III: 1 year required
• Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential may substitute for 2 years of respiratory therapy experience.

Licensure & Certifications

• Valid State of Hawaiʻi Respiratory Therapist license at time of hire
• Current Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) or Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential through the NBRC
• Basic Life Support (BLS) required within 6 months of hire
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required within 6 months and maintained thereafter
