Responsibilities
  • Independently perform and interpret Modified Barium Swallow Studies (MBS) in radiology without radiologist supervision
  • Conduct comprehensive SLP evaluations and develop, implement, and monitor dysphagia, communication, and cognitive-communication treatment plans for adults in acute care and rehabilitation settings
  • Provide acute care dysphagia therapy and related rehabilitation services; coordinate with SNF rehabilitation when appropriate
  • Document assessments, treatment plans, and progress in the inpatient EMR (Meditech); prepare outpatient documentation as needed
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams (nursing, physicians, radiology, dietetics, therapy) and manage referrals to outpatient care when indicated
  • Deliver patient and family education; participate in discharge planning and ensure infection control and safety standards are followed
Requirements
  • Active Hawaii state license in Speech-Language Pathology by start of assignment; travelers not yet licensed must apply and obtain HI licensure prior to start
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in acute care, SNF, or rehabilitation hospital settings
  • Proficiency in performing Modified Barium Swallow Studies independently
  • Experience with EMR documentation (Meditech); EMR training provided
  • Ability to float to other units/departments as census and staffing require; flexible scheduling including weekend coverage
